Tabaxi
Tabaxi are a race of nomadic feline humanoids that are found throughout Lamera. They are martial race, priding themselves on their agility and grace in combat. They are also known for their artistic nature, with their music and art is highly valued by nobles who will allow them into their halls. Tabaxi travel in family groups, and place a very high value on extended family.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Tabaxi appear as furry humanoids with feline heads and a tail.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Tabaxi believe that some foods are auspicious or lucky, particularly those with strong tastes such as garlic, citrus, peppers, or fermented foods like pickles. Meat makes up the majority of the Tabaxi diet however with salt being the most common method of preservation.
Biological Cycle
Tabaxi living in cooler climates will undergo two heavy shedding cycles in the late spring and late fall, during which most of their undercoat will fall out in clumps. All Tabaxi will experience a low level of shedding year round however. As Tabaxi get older, their fur may start to grow grey or whitish hairs.
Additional Information
Geographic Origin and Distribution
The largest concentration of Tabaxi lies throughout Southern Lamera but due to their nomadic nature, Tabaxi can be found nearly everywhere on Vuria.
Civilization and Culture
Gender Ideals
Traditionally, Tabaxi society is matriarchal, with the eldest female in the family being the respective head. Familial lineage is drawn from the mother's side, even in cases of adoption, and Tabaxi will take the family name of their mother or wife.
Courtship Ideals
Tabaxi consider arranged marriages a desirable setup with the parents of each family looking for an ideal partner for their child. Such a marriage is never forced and their child always has the option to refuse a chosen potential spouse, although being married by one's mid-20s is generally regarded as the norm.
Major Language Groups and Dialects
Tabaxi speak their own language, called Tabaxi. Most are fluent in Trade Common as their nomadic lifestyle dictates out of necessity.
Culture and Cultural Heritage
Tabaxi have a strong oral tradition and much of their history is passed down through stories and song. Needless to say, bards hold a special place in Tabaxi society, and bards of other races will always be welcomed with open arms in exchange for tales, stories, and songs of their own. They are also known for their artistic nature, with their pottery and art being highly valued by nobles of various human kingdoms.
History
Tabaxi originally hail from Uthmar, but after many years of prejudice and racial violence at the hands of the Uthmarans (who wrongly associate them with Rakshasa) few remain within the kingdom's borders.
