Fragmented land of the lost

Long ago, or perhaps yesterday, there came to be one whose dreams could warp and taint the world in which it slept. In an effort to preserve their world and their powers, an alliance of gods attempted to banish this aberrant being - who was later dubbed the Child- into nothingness. In their struggle, they tore their own world asunder before finally flinging the Child into the endless void. Alas, this feat proved to bring with it no victory; even in the void, nightmares of the frightened Child pulsed and grew, no longer threatening only one world, but perhaps all worlds. In an act of self sacrifice, there was one who wrapped around this chaos, drew it out into its own place and sealed it off. In so doing, Vyaelian was created of the earth, sky and souls that had been casualties in the conflict, cast off with the Child.   Vyaelian is composed of several land masses floating in the Nameless Sky. The largest of these holds the continents of Rial and Rix, as well as the Grey Ocean.   The Child walks the material world, and occasionally, draws lost things to his world, intentionally or not. Those who come this way, or by other means are habitually cut off from their gods. While some have been able to draw their deity's influence into this discarded world, most have not. The pantheon of Vyaelian is thus rather limited.   Additionally, portals to Vyaelian are not only exceedingly rare, but are known to suffer from temporal dissonance. Spells like planeshift cast to or from this world suffer from similar issues. It is linked most closely to the elemental plane, by way of various elemental creatures that have made their home in Vyaelin proper.
