The Wasting

The Wasting is the name of the disease that appeared on the continent of Withaeria during The Age of Wasting and gave the age its name. The disease was highly contagious and almost always fatal. It was a long-lasting painful disease that literally caused people to waste away, thus the name of the disease. The Wasting ended up killing the majority of the population of Withaeria and completely destroyed the nations that lived there. As a result of the Wasting, Withaeria contains a high population of undead. Many of which were caused by the painful and untimely deaths of the plague's vicitms, but some due to entire communities of people deciding to embrace undeath before succumbing to the death promised by the Wasting. The disease began to pop up in other nations near Withaeria as well during the Age of Wasting, but either by some miracle, or the efforts of scholars, spellcasters, and priests from around the world the plague was held back and seemingly defeated before it got much headway elsewhere.
