Sun Elf Desertion

The Conflict

Prelude

The sun elves are no exception to sharing an ancestry with all the others. At one point in time, they were all simply known as Elves and thrived in cities on Yandelar and some of the outlying islands. The Sun Elves were the first to split away from the others, not because of religion, but rather their magical interests. It all began with a collective that founded Demons and Devils. Creatures spawned from Pandemonium with the desire to consume and corrupt mortal and immortal alike. But where everyone else saw them as monsters, these elves saw potential and power. The sun elves began as a cult that sought to tame and use the demons and devils for themselves. While they were largely successful, it wasn't until they were able to actually able to lock the creatures away in their own bodies that the 'mutation' occurred. They were initially as pale and bland as their counterparts. It was the exposure to the beasts from Pandemonium and the magic there that began to truly warp the sun elves.

Deployment

It's all a matter of vanity. They look the way they do because, thousands and thousands of years ago, their ancestors used their newfound gifts to make them drastically different than the other elves. Where their people preached conformity, the Sun Elves stepped out of the shadows with golden skin that gleams like the metal. Named sun elves because of their brilliance in full light, this 'coming out' for them resulted in immediate persecution for dabbling in dangerous forces and dark, foreign magics. Unfortunately for their kin, they had not realized who it was they shunned. The very first group of sun elves with metallic skin as gold as the real thing and molten eyes showed their kin just what it was they'd been perfecting in secret. This small group of newly created sun elves left their kin with a smoldering city and a body count numbering in the thousands. A message to show what they were capable of should any other wish to hunt them down.

Aftermath

Since that Desertion, they are largely ignored by the other elves. Both like to pretend the other does not exist and so long as the Sun Elves do not destroy their homes, most are content to stay that way.   The sun elves kept out of the following wars, desiring only to be left to their studies and their attempts at mastering creatures that no other mortal dare traffic with.

Historical Significance

Legacy

The Sun Elves are arguably one of the strongest sub species of elf that enjoys the most personal freedoms, though it comes at a great personal sacrifice. Not exactly welcomed anywhere nor are they expressly denied, the Sun Elves find themselves visitors and unwelcomed guests to Vyril at large. Only the Snow Elves seem willing to deal with them regularly, especially after the Articles of Obligation.
