Yiai Tree
Something that is only mentioned in the most obscure of texts riddled in the ruins of Xhousong is something known as the Yiai Fruit, which bore magic that gave birth to the Red Wizards. It isn't something that exists anymore but it is a subject of curious study for those that care to look into the history of Xhousong, or anyone that tries to research the Magical Storms. Trying to understand the connection between it all has been a matter of debate amongst historians and Archivists alike.

Utility
Inknown to current scholars and Archivists, the Yiai fruit was used to awaken latent magical power in the people of Xhousong and infected them with a potent magic that would either kill them or make them stranger. The magic that created the Yiai fruit ran through much of the land and so those afflicted or infected would be able to interact and affect the land of Xhousong in miraculous ways.
The plant the fruit grew on was invasive and parasitic itself, spreading quickly, capable of growing in most soils, and could consume entire forests if allowed to grow unchecked. It was in the attempted erradication of this tree that the utility of the fruit and the power that came with it was discovered. Large swaths of the population died attempting to awaken their gift, until it became structured and cultivated, resulting in the Red Wizard's Keep. These Wizards, those who survived the consumption and mastered their abilities, set themselves apart and it became akin to a death sentence to try the fruit and an ill omen if any of the white barked, white and red leafed trees were spotted.
This is a very interesting take on how to gain magical abilities. I love your creativity here!
