Gleanhold Military & Law Enforcement
City Watch: The Gleanhold City Watch are trained in nonlethal and lethal hand-to-hand combat, following strict protocol with the detainment or arrest of individuals. Members of the City Watch in Gleanhold are duty-bound watchmen for the city of Gleanhold. Stationed in the diplomatic and political center of culture in the empire, with a presence of all races and the tension that follows, along with various nobles, aristocrats, politicians, a magical college, and the estates of various lords, the city watch is among the most diligent and tiresome group in the city. Due to this, they also happen to be among the most spread thin in the 15-mile city. Hence the reason for developing a comprehensive alarm system with abundant barracks and larger patrol routes along with a system of safe houses, watchhouses, and a gallery of siege points along the way all while reinforced by a heavily-armed gate and wall artillery.
They operate on strict protocol within a system of checks through a bureaucratic framework. They cannot operate outside the bounds of this process unless there is imminent danger to a citizen or to the public. While this has its shortcomings, it is how the city maintains complete accountability in its system. Any action acting above the law will be met with swift and harsh penalties for doing so if discovered with ample evidence.
The City Watch, above all else, acts as law enforcement. They patrol the streets, keeping the peace, and serve as the city's eyes and ears on the ground, ready to signal the alarm for military intervention if needed. They are trained by the Vyscarian Guard, which serves as a homeland defense branch of the military, and spend their days responding to incidents of crime, discord, tension, or natural disasters such as home fires, flooding, or other likewise occurrences. What they lack in individual fortitude they make up in their alarm system, defensive formations, knowledge of the city and its routes, and their resources and connections inside the city, not to mention the power that comes with serving as a body of law and order.
Urban Rangers: The Urban Rangers are an elite team of covert operatives within the city that act on intel gathered by Inquisitors and the City Watch to neutralize enemies of the state, often nullifying the necessity of all-out intervention from the Vyscarian Guard. Serving as a niche branch of the Redwing Ranger Regime of the Vyscarian Military, they navigate the rooftops and alleys of the city with ease using Quickline Maneuver Harnesses, Grappling Quivers, smoke canisters, message clasps, and compactable compound bows. The Rangers perform hostage rescue, search and rescue, they map out routes and passages of criminal syndicates and quarantined sections of districts, as well as train in falconry to have trained falcon companions. Without receiving the glory and face recognition that the Vyscarian Guard, Knights, and Watchmen receive, the Urban Rangers are instrumental at rooting out state threats and reducing the casualties of military personnel.
Inquisitor Corps: The Inquisitors are the detectives and undercover agents on the ground that question and interrogate detained criminals to answer truths about criminal networks, workings. With their trained eye and ear, they infiltrate various demographical spheres to gain answers and intel, working with Agents of the Crown on occasion. They connect the dots of crimes that illude the city watch and pave the path forward to finding the culprits, a process that can inform the actions the Urban Rangers and the Vyscarian Guard take, simultaneously granting warrants and permission for various actions of the City Watch.
Magist League of Augurs and Abjurists (MLAA): The Magist League are by all means the wealthiest branch of the military, as trained spellcasters are held in high regard and nobility. The magist league members use abjuration, divination, enchantment, and evocation to aid in efforts of the crown, law enforcement, and homeland defense. Those who are marked by the augurs rarely escape their divination, and an abjurist will accompany a Vyscarian Guard dispatch. Enchanters among them aid interrogations of detained or arrested criminals, and draw secrets out of high-profile targets. They are also hired by high nobility as security in the Pearl District and will often be present in most noble parties, lordship conferences, and lawful assemblies.
Vyscarian Guard: The Vyscarian Guard are the cavalry for the City Watch, martially skilled defenders of the Doctrine of Liberty, People's Concord, the Vyscarian people, and the Vyscarian Monarchy. Standing sentry along walls and watchtowers, they train the City Watch, serve as the city's homeland defense and the local military, and act as House Estate security, federal protection, and siege defense. The Vyscarian Guard are decisive guardians sworn to defend Vyscaria, its interests, nobility, lords, monarchs, and its denizens with a strict line of protocol and bureaucratic processes.
Agents of the Crown. Agents of the Crown serve as elite operatives answering directly to the High Queen and Empress of Vyscaria as well as the various sovereign monarchs of the 9 kingdoms. Trained in espionage, subterfuge, assassination, spycraft, and advanced combat, the agents are accredited for securing tenuous situations of national security and making threats to the state disappear. They operate solely on the jurisdiction of the Crown's Insignia, as the Queen's authority extends to them. Their protocol is performing whatever is necessary to get the job done.
Queensguard: The Queensguard is a band of 12 Elite Knights and Champions who swear their fealty to the Queen directly, serving as her private "military" and security. These knights command military operations, the duties of other knights of nobility, and are regarded as the highest rank a military officer could hope to attain next to general or admiral.
