Sagay
Most dwarven communities mine for gemstones and precious metals, however, it is the Blood Dwarves of the Sagay that dig the deepest. These folks are not terribly welcoming of outsiders, so there are few non-dwarves among them. That being said, the rare Hill Dwarf or Terrace Dwarf can be found assimilated, particularly in the relatively more cosmopolitan Heartblood.
For millennia, they have chiseled highly ornate tunnels and grand chambers throughout their home mountains. They specialize in gem-cutting and metallurgy. They have great forgehalls that tap into the fiery heart of long-dormant volcanoes. Here they fashion the bounty of the earth into weapons, armor, jewelry, and many other forms of unsurpassed quality. The finest of these wares are kept for their datus and other nobility, but lesser (by dwarf standards) items are traded to humans and others. Revenge raids conducted by the mountain dwarves will often bring back captives to work in their mines. These are considered “indentured” by the dwarves for their people’s misdeeds. Befuddlement brands are burned into their flesh to prevent the outsiders from remembering specifics about the dwarven territory. These marks slowly fade and in one year’s time when they are gone completely, the captives are taken from the mines and allowed back to their people. The ancient cults that are said to lead these people collect blood which they use to forge great magic.
