Malakai Goldheart

CHARACTER: Malakai Goldheart SEX: Male Race: Dwarf Class: Rogue/Warlock Age: 38   Malakai is a current member of The Nameless Ones, and while his story arc is shifting towards a hero, his past is rather sordid. Still, the events of his past have only given him the strengths that the Nameless Ones were previously missing. Fast hands and stealth are his greatest weapons, with a keen danger sense. When his companions attack in the light, Malakai strikes from the shadows.   Malakai's origins are embedded in sorrow. Born in the mountain-top village of Korda, his father, Steppenwolf Goldheart, was famed as a master miner, as well as a great paladin for the god, Moradin. Steppenwolf was married to the love of his life, Brunhella. When Malakai was two years old, Steppenwolf took his son on a small journey to a temple of Moradin, where Malakai was consecrated to Moradin.   While Steppenwolf and Malakai were away, Brunhella went to visit her brother in the mines and bring him some baked goods. While visiting, one of the miners struck the rock with his pick and broke through to a cavern where a Drider was waiting. A battle ensued, and it seemed the dwarves were near victory when a cave in occurred. The mine collapse killed 42 dwarves that day, including Brunhella. When Steppenwolf heard the news, he was stricken with horrible grief and anger at a god who would let this happen while he was dedicating his own son to that god. He immediately renounced his faith and moved his son to the city of Durant.   Malakai grew up with neglect. His father was typically drunk and Malakai was responsible for taking care of himself. He learned quickly that he had a knack for thievery. Running wild in the streets, Malakai often found himself with a bad crowd, but he was determined to be his own master. He became adapted to a life of gambling and criminal activity, even once being involved in a kidnapping. He severed ties with companions as quickly as he made them, never trusting anyone.   In 3328 AW, Malakai spent a week in an underground casino in Durant, owned by the notorious crime boss, Grimson Emon. Grimson kept his vaults full of stolen treasure beneath the gambling house and Malakai found his way in. Malakai barely escaped with his life and thousands in gold and jewels, and spent the next few years on the run. It is rumored that he hid the treasure somewhere between Durant and Ingosburg.   After three years of hiding and running, he found himself sleeping in an alley way in Ingosburg, when the Nameless Ones encountered him, and offered him work. As he travels with them, he has found himself gaining a fondness for his new allies, and even encouraged by High Priestess Ursulla Verde. And now it seems, his great ancestor Gunnar Goldheart is leading him towards a heroes journey.
