Angels Forlorn

The Angels Forlorn are a unique and enigmatic Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes, known for their grim determination and unyielding resolve in the face of overwhelming odds. Descended from the Blood Angels, they carry the genetic legacy of Sanguinius, which grants them the same gifts—and the same curse. The Black Rage and the Red Thirst, afflictions that have haunted the Blood Angels since their Primarch's death, run deep within the Angels Forlorn, shaping their history, their culture, and their tactics on the battlefield.   Like all Blood Angels successors, the Angels Forlorn share the noble lineage of Sanguinius, and with it, the curse of the Black Rage and the Red Thirst. These genetic flaws, remnants of the trauma inflicted on Sanguinius during the Horus Heresy, manifest with terrible frequency within the Chapter. The Black Rage, a condition where a Space Marine becomes consumed by the memory of Sanguinius’ death, is particularly prevalent among the Angels Forlorn. Their ranks are often depleted as battle-brothers fall to this uncontrollable fury, becoming little more than berserkers who must be channeled into the Chapter's Death Company.   The Chapter’s name, "Angels Forlorn," reflects their self-perception as warriors abandoned to a fate they cannot escape. They see themselves as doomed to fight, knowing that the Black Rage could claim any one of them at any time. This fatalistic outlook has bred a culture of extreme self-discipline and grim acceptance among the Chapter. They are constantly on guard against the creeping madness that lurks within their souls, and this vigilance is reflected in their combat doctrine.   The Angels Forlorn are known for their brutal, close-quarters combat style, which emphasizes speed, aggression, and overwhelming force. They specialize in shock assaults, using their innate ferocity and the strength of their gene-seed to rip through enemy lines before their foes can react. Their tactics often involve deep strikes into enemy territory, where they can bring their full might to bear in a single, decisive blow. However, the curse that afflicts them has also made the Chapter wary of prolonged engagements. They understand that the longer a battle drags on, the greater the risk that their warriors might succumb to the Black Rage. As a result, they aim to end battles quickly, before the toll of war can take its inevitable toll on their sanity.   In recent years, the Angels Forlorn have been forced to replenish their ranks with recruits of varying experience, particularly within the Tenth Company, which traditionally serves as a Scout Company. The Tenth Company, under the command of Captain Akhos, is a more eclectic mix of battle-brothers, many of whom are still in training or recovering from near-death experiences. This has added a level of unpredictability to the Chapter's operations, as these less-experienced warriors must learn to control their inner demons while facing the horrors of the battlefield.   The Angels Forlorn have faced many challenges in their long history, but few have been as dire as the crisis on Novaria Prime. Sent to investigate the strange events occurring on the world, the Chapter found themselves embroiled in a mystery that tested their resolve and pushed them to the brink of madness. The Fifth Company, which was the first to make planetfall, disappeared without a trace, leaving Captain Akhos and his Tenth Company to uncover their fate.   The situation on Novaria Prime is emblematic of the challenges faced by the Angels Forlorn. They are warriors on the edge, constantly battling not only their external enemies but also the darkness within. For the Angels Forlorn, every mission is a test of their strength, their loyalty, and their sanity. As they continue to fight for the Emperor, they do so knowing that they are forever walking the line between duty and damnation, bound by the knowledge that one day, they too may fall victim to the curse that haunts them all.
