Hive Fleet Intertious
Hive Fleet Intertius was once a terrifying force among the stars, a vast swarm of bio-ships and monstrous creatures that tore through entire star systems, leaving only desolation in its wake. Like all Tyranid hive fleets, Intertius was driven by an insatiable hunger to consume all biomass, absorbing the genetic material of its prey to fuel its unending evolution. However, today, Intertius is but a shadow of its former self, a splintered and weakened remnant, struggling to survive and rebuild its strength. The fleet’s descent into its current diminished state began when it ventured into the Novarian System. Drawn by the presence of the vibrant and resource-rich world of Aetheris, Intertius was initially unaware of the anomaly that had destabilized the region. This anomaly, a mysterious phenomenon that defied understanding, wreaked havoc on the hive fleet as it approached the system.
Navigating the warp is perilous even for the Tyranids, whose mastery of the void is formidable. But the anomaly introduced a level of unpredictability that even the hive mind could not fully anticipate. The once-cohesive fleet was shattered as it tried to breach the system’s defenses. Tendrils of Intertius were ripped away, hurled into the void or destroyed outright by the erratic energies that lashed out from the anomaly. The bio-ships that survived the initial onslaught were scattered across the system, separated by vast distances and cut off from the greater synaptic web that bound the fleet together.
This fragmentation left Intertius in a state of disarray. With its tendrils severed, communication and coordination between the various broods and bio-ships became erratic. Without the full strength of the hive mind to guide them, individual organisms within the fleet began to operate more autonomously, driven by basic survival instincts rather than the precise strategy typically orchestrated by the hive mind. This weakened state left the fleet vulnerable, and it was forced to adopt a more cautious approach, avoiding direct confrontation with the stronger factions within the system.
Despite these setbacks, Intertius remained a deadly threat. The fragmented tendrils still retained enough power to wage war on a smaller scale. One such tendril, having detected the presence of life on Aetheris, dispatched a Lictor to the hive city. The Lictor, a stealthy and lethal bioform designed for infiltration and assassination, was sent to scout the area and determine its viability as a target for consumption. The creature’s role was to locate and mark targets for later attacks, ensuring that even in its weakened state, the hive fleet could still devour what it needed to survive.
Aetheris itself, teetering on the brink of chaos due to the anomaly, presented a perfect opportunity for Intertius to regain some of its lost strength. The hive city, with its dense population and abundant resources, could provide the biomass necessary to fuel the fleet’s recovery. However, the remnants of Intertius knew they could not launch a full-scale invasion without risking further losses. Instead, they relied on their Lictors and Genestealers to infiltrate the city, sowing fear and confusion among its inhabitants while they prepared for a more strategic strike.
The Lictor hunting Jaren was one of the first to enter Aetheris, a harbinger of the devastation that was to come. As it stalked the city’s shadows, it not only sought to eliminate potential threats but also to gather information that would guide the hive fleet’s next moves. Every kill, every observation was transmitted back to the hive ships, slowly piecing together a plan that would allow Intertius to strike swiftly and decisively when the time was right.
In its current state, Hive Fleet Intertius may no longer be the unstoppable force it once was, but it remains a deadly presence in the Novarian System. Adaptable, relentless, and driven by an insatiable hunger, the fleet continues to seek out opportunities to feed and evolve. For the inhabitants of Aetheris and the surrounding regions, the arrival of Intertius, even in its weakened form, is a nightmare from which there may be no escape.
