Kroot Farstalkers: Mercenaries in the Underhives of Novaria Prime
The Kroot Farstalkers are a band of mercenaries hailing from the distant Kroot homeworld of Pech, known for their cunning, adaptability, and ferocity in battle. These alien warriors, led by their shaper Krelk, were drawn to Novaria Prime by the promise of wealth and plunder, lured into the service of the planet’s nobility. Acting as elite bounty hunters, the Farstalkers were deployed in the shadowy depths of the underhives, where they hunted down those who threatened the interests of their masters.
The nobility of Novaria Prime, particularly those with vast holdings in the underhive, saw the Kroot as the perfect tools to maintain control over the restless and rebellious population. The Farstalkers, with their keen hunting instincts and ability to blend into the urban wilderness, were ideally suited for the task. They operated in the darkest corners of Tertium and Aetheris, stalking their prey with a combination of natural prowess and advanced weaponry. Many a gang leader or dissident found themselves ambushed in the narrow alleys and forgotten tunnels of the underhive, their deaths swift and brutal.
The Kroot have always been opportunistic, adapting their tactics and strategies to suit the needs of their employers. Under the patronage of the nobility, the Farstalkers expanded their operations, establishing networks of informants and safehouses throughout the underhive. They became a feared presence, their distinctive silhouettes—avian and predatory—serving as a warning to those who would cross the powerful families they served. Yet, their loyalty was always to the highest bidder, not to any cause or ideal.
When the anomaly struck Novaria Prime, the Kroot Farstalkers were caught in the ensuing chaos like everyone else. Their patrons disappeared, either consumed by the mysterious event or fleeing in panic, leaving the Farstalkers without guidance or payment. The warp-tainted energies that spread across the planet affected the Kroot differently than humans; while some of their number fell victim to madness or mutation, others found their senses heightened, their instincts sharpened by the unnatural forces at play on their prey.
Faced with the loss of their employers and the collapse of the social order they had exploited, the Farstalkers turned to survival. Krelk, their shaper, quickly reorganized the band, focusing on salvaging whatever they could from the wreckage of the underhive. They looted abandoned estates, scavenged weapons, and supplies, and hunted down isolated survivors—be they human or xenos—to feed upon and absorb their knowledge.
Now, the Farstalkers operate as scavengers and raiders, their once-organized operations devolving into a desperate scramble for resources. Their knowledge of the underhive and its secret paths gives them an advantage over the other factions that now vie for control of Novaria Prime. However, Krelk knows that their time on this cursed world is running out. With no patrons left to pay them and the planet itself becoming increasingly unstable, the Farstalkers seek to gather what they can before making their escape.
Their ultimate goal is survival, to return to Pech with the spoils of their venture on Novaria Prime. Yet, even as they plan their exit, the allure of the anomaly’s power tempts them. Krelk knows that understanding it could give the Kroot an edge in future conflicts. For now, though, the Farstalkers remain focused on escaping the ruins of Novaria Prime, their eyes ever watchful for both prey and opportunity.
