Vakhtor

The Unbroken

In the aftermath of the doomed expedition to Novaria Prime, Vakhtor, once the chosen champion of Lord Samael, emerged as a figure of both cunning and resilience. Where his former master sought only power and was consumed by the anomaly, Vakhtor saw the folly in unchecked ambition. When Samael fell, screaming into the void he sought to control, his warband was left leaderless, scattered, and beset by the horrors unleashed by the ancient energies within the heart of Aetheris.   Vakhtor, ever pragmatic and unyielding, quickly took command. As the city began to warp around them, with reality itself twisting under the influence of the anomaly, Vakhtor rallied the survivors. The warband was in disarray. Samael’s death had shattered their morale, and the whispers of the warp threatened to drive them mad. But Vakhtor, with his iron discipline and fearsome reputation, quelled the rising panic. He was not a man given to flights of fancy or ambition beyond his reach. He promised the warriors survival and vengeance, focusing their rage and despair into a single purpose: escape.   The city of Aetheris had become a labyrinth, its streets twisting in impossible ways, buildings merging and shifting as if alive. Navigating through it required not just strength, but cunning and patience. Vakhtor led his warband through the cursed streets, avoiding the worst of the warp distortions and fighting off the predatory entities that now prowled the ruins. These entities, born of the warp and the anomaly’s power, were attracted to the warband's presence like carrion to the dying. Vakhtor personally led the defence against these horrors, his power sword cutting through both flesh and spirit with brutal efficiency.   Vakhtor’s tactical mind was on full display as he orchestrated the warband's retreat. He used the terrain to his advantage, setting ambushes for the warp-spawned creatures and ensuring that his forces remained cohesive despite the madness surrounding them. His leadership turned what could have been a chaotic rout into a disciplined withdrawal. Over the course of several days, the warband, diminished but unbroken, fought its way back to the drop zone where their remaining Thunderhawks waited.   Escaping the planet was no simple task. The anomaly’s influence extended into the atmosphere, causing severe turbulence and warp storms that threatened to tear the ships apart. Vakhtor ordered the remaining tech-priests to modify the ships’ Geller fields, using them to shield the Thunderhawks from the worst of the warp’s effects. With the modified Geller fields barely holding, Vakhtor’s warband broke through the storm and ascended into the void.   Back aboard the *Vengeful Shadow*, Vakhtor took stock of what remained. The warband had lost many, but those who survived were hardened, their loyalty to Vakhtor cemented by his leadership. Unlike Samael, Vakhtor harboured no illusions of godhood or dominion over the galaxy. He was a warrior first and foremost, a servant of Chaos who understood the balance between ambition and survival. His goal now was to rebuild his warband, to turn them into a force that could command respect among the other factions of the Black Legion.   Vakhtor’s objectives are clear: consolidate his power, strengthen his warband, and carve out a place of influence within the Black Legion. He seeks to gather resources, recruit new warriors, and acquire relics and knowledge that could give him an edge over his rivals. But above all, Vakhtor is driven by the desire to never be a slave to hubris like Samael.
