Korina

The city of Korina can be found in the open plains east of the Whitecrag Mountains, in the northern part of the fallen kingdom of Tarith. Surrounded by an intricate system of walls, ditches, outposts and other fortifications, the city has managed to survive the collapse of its parent realm during theUndead Uprising , and even thrive against all odds thanks to the tenacity of its inhabitants.

Known for centuries for the fine horses it produces, Korina's defining characteristic has become the ever-present Dome, created at the climax of the Battle of Korina to stem the undead hordes that overrun the rest of Tarith. The Dome has dictated the city's development ever since in almost every way. The extensive decentralized fortifications where built to resist the undead raids that still occasionally come out of the south. The numerous horse farms have turned into fortified outposts. The presence of an estimated 40.000 undead within the confines of the Dome has plagued the area with continuous earthquakes as Petros protests their existence. As a result, most of the old buildings have collapsed and the their stone has been repurposed for fortifications. New construction is based mostly on wattle and daub or wood and paper for the more affluent. Priests of Petros have taken to entering the Dome as their final act of devotion. And of course the steady influx of adventurers has had a shaping influence on city life that cannot be underestimated.

In the last decade things have taken a dire turn for the city and indeed the whole region. The Dome shows signs of weakening and it is feared that the massed undead might go on the march again. Some believe that this is the work of Yllantir the Harpmage, that he is tired of his self imposed imprisonment and has decided to escape. Others assume that the undead have finally slain Yllantir and are now working to destroy their prison. Rumors abound and truth is hard to discern but adventurers and arch mages are starting to take notice.

My players actually played through the battle that led to the creation of the Dome almost 20 years ago. That was one of the most climactic sessions I ever played.
