Water-Nymphs

The Water-Nymphs are minor female nature-deities typically associated with the rivers and water-bodies of the Mountains. Their Magic Level is Blue, Flank Gold.   A variation of the Water-Nymphs is the Ice-Nymph, Nymphs that live in the colder water-bodies of the Tripoles and have grown fur to survive the harsh conditions.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Water-Nymphs appear as fair and beautiful women, with pale blue skin and glorious hair that shimmers in the moonlight. These beautiful creatures are fine and delicate, and only come out at night.Their hands and feet are webbed, aiding them in the water and on land and their faces lack nostrils, instead possessing gills near neck. Between their shoulder blades they have massive feathery wings that do not aid them in flight, but rather act as a second set of "ears" that pick up on vibrations in the air caused by moving air-particles to sense predators or large creatures.

Biological Traits

They share a genetic-relation with Foxlings, suggesting that perhaps the two groups once shared a common ancestor or maybe intermarried at some point in history.

Genetics and Reproduction

Nymphs are asexual hermaphrodites, with each individual having both male and female sexual-organs at the same time. They reproduce asexually through eggs as big as golf-balls, which are made of collagen-protein strands and are rough and leathery. Eggs are concealed in egg-cases with fibrous material covering the outside of the egg-case to aid in attachment to substrate. Egg-cases without a fibrous outer layer can be striated, bumpy, or smooth and glossy and are sold as jewellery. Egg cases are rectangular in shape with projections, called horns, at each corner, each horn with one or more tendrils sprouting from it to anchor the egg-case to the bottom of the pond. Eggs hatch within 2 weeks.

Growth Rate & Stages

Nymphs lay around 50,000 eggs at a time. The eggs hatch within 2 weeks, and the Fry (baby hatchlings) grow into adults within 3 months.

Ecology and Habitats

Ponds, lakes, rivers and other water-bodies.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Despite their harmless appearance, Nymphs are carnivores and will eat anything from black-bears to fish to Abra-Comanches and Mountain-Elves. No one is safe from a hungry Nymph.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Nymphs have youthful feminine faces with small mouths and large rubbery lips. Their ears point outwards, similar to Mountain-Elves, but are longer and curved inwards like tubular conc-shells. They have sharp shark-like teeth, similar to those of a Satanimal.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Average Intelligence

As smart as Sapiens.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Being capable of Blue-Magic, Nymphs possess the ability of all water-based magic. They can use water to send messages (such as through vapor in the air) and can use water as a weapon, forming blades of ice or streams of hot water as defensive blasts. Water is also their way of hearing, as their ears are in fact sealed membranes filled with a thick jelly-like liquid that aid in picking up sound under water. Their ear-wings aid in hearing on land. They have no nostrils, instead breathing through their skin like amphibians. Their eyes can see for a radius of 2 miles, and they can see in the dark through electrolocation like sharks.
