Zombie-Astrals

An evolved form of Rotting-Zombie, these rare entities roam the Fallout at night and fear sunlight. Zombie-Astrals are said to create hallucinations that change their aspect in order to deceive people, but the effect lasts just a few minutes. Astrals are hunted frequently for their magic, and are thus incredibly rare.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Astrals can survive extensive damage to their bodies, since their bodies are composed of a subtle material intermediate to the soul and the mental body. If trapped or blocked, they can immerse themselves in a deep sleep and awake at random moments. Their bodies deteriorate alarmingly fast, sometimes with as little as a few hours resulting in Fading. Unlike Zombies, Astrals never starve or dehydrate, but will eat if necessary.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Astrals will rarely consume flesh, instead preferring to consume the luminiferous spirit-energy released by living beings when they dream. As such, Astrals hunt at midnight when most prey are asleep.

Biological Cycle

It is believed that the universe will eventually reclaim the Astral's soul, so the Zombie-Astral is a temporary spiritual-entity. The process of an Astral vanishing from existence is known as "Fading".

Uses, Products & Exploitation

A person can capture a Zombie-Astral to enhance his spiritual power. A Zombie-Astral can also be sealed inside a specially decorated bottle by a priest and sold to a client to bring luck, healing or business success.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They can switch back and forth in appearance; combining memories they are able to temporarily appear as fully human again to communicate with the living. Through this trickery, the Astrals can provoke an irrational and emotional response in their unsuspecting captors or would-be killers to allow them an opportunity either for escape or to catch them off guard and counterattack.

Zombie-Astrals are said to be Rotting-Zombies infected with pure astral magic that has caused them to leave their physical bodies behind. Zombie-Astrals emerged 20 years after the first Zombies were documented.
