GigaBastion Datacenter

The GigaBastion is home of the largest, most secure dataservers in the world. Located in Tromsø, Norway and owned by GigaTeleCore(GTC) the GigaBastion offers a neutral, secure site for Rootlink, interconnection, and colocation solutions for businesses and personal users. They make up 30% of the market, second only to ObO Digital Assets'Data Fleet centers offering.

YOUR NEUTRAL DATA ARBITER

As the world became more digital, developing megacorporations saw the opportunity to be the custodians of the flow of data passing through network servers. ObO Digital Assets rose through the ranks as the most powerful player in datacenter services, by also providing important everyday services like the digital currency Patch, and the social network loop.   Society's online data was eventually divided between only a few entities, whose ethics were called into question after an expose revealed user data, and the data of rival companies, was being traded on a shadow market. Further more, there were complaints of critical voices being de-platformed, creating a conflict of interests between free speech and the corporations who owned the digital landscape where our conversations took place.   Seeing a hole needing to be filled, GigaBastion raised funds from their council of investors to create the most secure datacenter on the planet. They claimed they would be the world's neutral arbiter of data, with no ties to any outside corporate interests.

THE CITY OF TROMSØ

Several potential sites were selected, most of which were near the arctic circle. GigaTeleCore felt like a datacenter of this size would benefit from a colder climate. Hot servers are a nightmare for telecom companies, and the cold weather would be a greener, cost-efficient method of cooling.   Considered the "Paris of the North", Tromsø was determined to be the best fit for GTC's needs. Already boasting the world's northernmost university, as well as a botanical garden and planetarium, Tromsø welcomed the GigaBastion as a potential boon to their economy.

THE GIGABASTION

Three years after breaking ground, the GigaBastion was completed and with it came approximately 22,000 jobs, nearly a third of the total population of Tromsø. In addition to this influx in new human resources, GigaBastion also employed a private security firm that provided 2,500 military grade personnel to provide security for the company's sensitive data and physical infrastructure.   Sporting world reknowned encryption services and cutting edge firewall tech, GTC claims that data stored in the GigaBastion is more secure than even ObO's V-Vault.   Despite their focus on neutrality, critics claim that because of GTC's marketshare, they've become the very problem they sought to remedy - a centralized server determining the flow of the data in our virtual lives. However GTC continues to cultivate a sterling reputation, winning several Exceptional Ethics in Business Awards over the last decade.

TODAY

Because of GigaBastion, the city of Tromsø developed into a powerful force in the evolving world of information technology, with many of the world's leading IT analysts, scientists and engineers calling it home.   In October GigaTeleCore hosts a symposium in which industry leaders converge on Tromsø to share the newest evolution in datacenter technology. A recent investigative report revealed that there were secret bacchanal parties held during these symposium, hosted by various IT companies. Details of the debauchery has been disputed as media sensationalism, but public opinion remained positive regardless. If you get a bunch of nerds out of the office and onto a secluded, subarctic island, some wild shit is bound to happen.
