Synaptexol

Synaptexol is a drug compound that can be used in a variety medical cocktails to improve synaptic response time, leading to better memory recall and faster motor function response time.

DISCOVERY

In 2031 the multi-national corporation Heath-Ostlund sponsored a group of scientists and explorers to survey some of the uncharted areas of Papua New Guinea. Known as one of the most biodiverse locations on the planet, Heath-Ostlund hoped to find new varieties of plants and fungus that could be used in medicinal applications.   The expedition was lead by Tang Min, who had already spent years exploring cave systems throughout the Papua New Guinea rain forests.
We discovered some rain water runoff, draining into a basin. Not far from there, we discovered the entrance to cave that had never been touched by human hands. We tread carefully, quickly discovered beautiful algae blooms that mesmerized the scientists with its vibrant colors. They couldn't stop gawking over it. But I kept going deeper.   Perhaps too deep. I lost my footing on a slick ledge and slid deep into a chamber half submerged in water.   The ceiling was covered in tiny bowls filled with eggs. Like miniature bird's nests. I got close to them and the bowls reminded me of tiny hollowed out brains, and the spore was like caviar.   I didn't know how special they were, and even though they were fascinating, I was more fearful that I'd die in that chamber. I managed to take a sample before I escaped, and the scientists were very pleased, though not really caring that I'd nearly lost my life.   -Tang Min

BRAIN ROE

After years of breaking down the genetic makeup of Cerebrumspora crucibulum, or the fungus known as Brain Roe, scientists eventually found a use for it. Apparently a cocktail containing a compound derived from Brain Roe lead to increased synaptic connectivity, and faster muscle response time. The compound, Synaptexol was immediately trademarked by Heath-Ostlund.   Despite having adequate spore prints for Brain Roe, scientists have found it impossible to recreate conditions for the fungus to grow. Much like certain strains of truffle, Brain Roe is a finicky mistress that cannot be propagated at man's will.

POTENTIAL MEDICAL APPLICATIONS

Based on computer models, Synaptexol reacts favorably in brains affected with dementia or Alzheimer's. Researchers believe this drug could be the miracle remedy for these maladies. However, there are benefits for healthy brains as well. Snyaptexol could potentially enhance our cognitive ability and motor function, allowing eSports competitors an edge much that would render Adderall obsolete.

THE HUNT

Discovering more of Cerebrumspora crucibulum has proven to be a difficult task for Heath-Ostlund. The chamber that Tang Min discovered has since flooded, ruining whatever Brain Roe was growing there. Considering the potential profit margins, Heath-Ostlund believes it is in their best interest to continue investigating the Papua New Guinea area for more.   Because many of their findings were leaked to the public, Heath-Ostlund have also found themselves in competition for the prize, with other corporations hiring mercenary explorers to scour every PNG rain forest for its precious Brain Roe.   Rumors abound of violent disputes between the different factions searching for the miracle drug.
