Session XX: A Golden Opportunity Report

General Summary

After resting on the Widdershins, the party rests before going to the Temple of Ptah to follow up on another job. Arriving at the temple on Bral, the party eventually meet with Andaclesia, the High Priest of Ptah on Bral. She offers the party the job of going to the fortress of a heretical cult of the temple and retrieve a powerful artifact. Though initially implying that they would hold onto Grewarum if they did not bring back the priest they were sending with them, she reneged on the implied kidnapping. Andaclesia impressed upon the party that a priest of Ptah would need to take the artifact as it would destroy anyone else. Additionally, this priest--Khoreson--would provide teleportation when they were done or if the job was too botched. Approach by spelljammer would be suicide so teleportation was the only way. 
The party agreed and Khoreson teleported the party to the surface of Toril. He shared the schematics he had of the fortress as well as knowledge of when guards changed. Going to the south end, the party swam through the water, seeing the strange light of the beacon seem to radiate in a straight line, allowing them to be in the cover of darkness. Coming to the stern of a ship docked at the fort's southern dock, Dalvanak smelled smokepowder and saw an opportunity with an open porthole. Placing a fuse, the party tried to advance under the dock, but were heard by others on the ship. Thaddius swam back, lit the fuse, and the party swam down in time to escape the ensuing explosing, swimming like hell back to the bank and to the north side of the fort. Hugging the sides of the fort so that those on the wall tops could not see them, the party heard those in the murderholes exit to investigate the explosion. Finding the ship at the north dock unguarded, the party sneaked onto the courtyard and to the front door of the fortress proper. 
Dalvanak was able to sneak inside the door, listening to the conversation between a watch guard captained named Gareth and a soldier dressed in ornate golden armor. The ornate soldier told Gareth to find out what happened at the docks as he and his brothers had to consult with the captain-general. Two other soldiers like the first ornate soldier joined him and they disappeared further into the fort. Led by Dalvanak, the party dispatched poor Gareth and proceeded into the sleeping quarters of the watch.
