Session XXVI: Look About Lookout Report
General Summary
Having defeated the ship full of feyr, the party began to investigate the ship and crew for how the creatures got on board. When they asked the crew what happened, Crewman Loup refused to say anything because the party weren't his captain and put up his fists to fight. Dalvanak obliged, accidentally dodging Loup's blow and miraculously landing a glancing hit on Loup. The pair went again, Loup going flatfoot and Dalvanak knocking him down with a one-two punch. Loup confessed he delegated the job to another crewman and it was revealed there was a series of delegations until it came to the sheepish Crewman Provato who just signed for everything without checking.
The bill of lading Provato got was an obvious forgery. The address was in the Elven quarter on Dragonrock where no trading houses could be. It was on the same street as Dr. Elvarion's old house. Grewarum recognized the symbol written on it as belonging to the Man of Dry Bones.
Going down into the hold, the party found an odd crate. It appeared to have been a crate of holding, though the magic was gone. Examining the box, there was residue of the feyrs found around the outside. Dalvanak suggested eating Crewman Provato's brain to get his memories of the man who gave him the box. Darius, Grewarum, and the rest of the party objected and they agreed that Dalvanak would read his mind while another party member would ask questions.
When Dalvanak read Provato's mind, he saw the surfaces comprised of a sunny meadow with a clear brook running along the chalk filled hills as the daisy pushed up from the spring soil. Then, as Garlith asked the questions about the box, there was a tear in the dreamlike reality and a rail thin man with a face tattooed to look like a skull approached with two shambling compatriots who carried the box. He presented the papers for signature and Provato shook as he took them into his hooves, signed for them, and handed them back, the bell around his neck jingling as he shook. Then the man left
During this time, Faddius had attuned to the helm to get the ship moving again. As he did so, Crewman Strix had spotted two ships sailing toward them. Zaufanie recognized them as the Pirates of Pittance, warning the party not to let them board as their singing drove men to madness.
Sailing the Widdershins out of range of the enemy's weapons, the party let fly with a broadside, severely damaging one of the ships. The other ships zoomed to bracket the party between them and did some serious damage to the Widdershins. Again the Widdershins sailed out of range and let loose another broadside, destroying one ship and severely injuring the other. Yet, the remaining ship, a lamprey ship, sailed within boarding distance and let fly its grappling ram, letting down a gangplank, and Richard, the Pirate King sauntered on to the plank, with Ruth the Maid of All Work, and his remaining pirate crew.
Dalvanak, seeing them bunched together, proceeded to blast them with his psychic might, but his attack was blunted by the pirates' own inane psychic ability. Garrakas stepped forward and let fly with his sword, severely injuring another. Lastly, Grewarum summoned a dust devil to knock the pirates to their deaths, but the hardy seamen kept their feet.
Richard, the Pirate King, then began a monologuing speech.
