Session XXXIX: Pulling the Loose Threads Report

General Summary

The party entered the Shady Dock Tavern. Eloise led the way to the bar to receive very mediocre drinks from a barman who, by his own admission, only poured the drinks. While in the bar, the party overheard some patrons talking about places they could go to stay: the Gundwald Almshouse and a place in the Knife run by a man named Holstelmann. The barman tells them to drink up and leave as he is not running an inn.   Garlith recognizes a gnome associate named Snorky and goes to talk to him. Snorky is nervous to talk to the party in the bar, and Dalvanak sees crowded surface thoughts with the main thought being that they need to leave in order to talk. Dalvanak suggests they leave and Snorky is relieved, leading them to a secret hut made of enchanted rags with a trashcan fire burning in the center.   Snorky tells them that the bar is a front by a member of the Tenth Pit named Rumsfeld. The Shady Dock Tavern is a trap house for illegal goods in the docks ward and Rumsfeld has an office there that might have information on where the Boss, aka the Beggar King, may have been taken. Dalvanak recalls a slip of paper he received from Cherrup Roundstone, the desk sergeant at the Golden Hills District streltsy office, and the address for a man called the Candyman at the Shady Dock Tavern. Snorky relays that Rumsfeld was assassinated by the Rag Men, the criminal network the Beggar King runs.   After pumping Snorky for information about the barman, the party don disguises to reenter the bar. Dalvanak wears a fake moustache, a monocle, a bowler hat with a tiara on top of it, and a long black gown. Garlith wears a large, brown, handlebar mustache, a long brown coat, a bad black wig that looks like it may have been made from a cat. Eloise wears a moo moo, an overly large sunhat, sunglasses, a mop fashioned in the shape of a wig with bad bangs, and is walking with a cane. Faddius wears sunglasses and a fedora. Darius wears a neck tie and a pair of glasses.   Defying all reasons, the disguises suceed. Despite some initial disagreement between Dalvanak and the barman, Dalvanak asks to see the Candyman. The barman looks knowing and hands over a key, directing them to a door: Rumsfeld's office. Entering the office, they find a number of ledgers showing coded locations with goods going to and from those places. Found in the wastepaper basket is a note, "LtCmdr Ralofir Oceanstar - becoming a problem. Elininate in next week. He's assistant to the chief of staff of the commander of the Left Destroyer Squadron, Fifth Battlegroup, Armada Correllon's Revenge, Red Fleet." (No one checked if the handwriting was the same as those in the ledgers). In a folio among the ledgers are notes about the building and decommissioning of ships. You note the curious fact that a number of heavy warships or other prie ships are being decommissioned while still well in their prime. All of those ships have been sent to the ship graveyard south of the Docks Ward: the Knife. There is evidence that a number of disperate offices accross Dragonrock's government are working informally together to help the Tenth Pit. The party recalls that Colonel Yussopov mentioned a shadow administration helping the https://www.worldanvil.com/w/we-be-spelljamming-samgam/a/lampadniks-organization, the party of boyar families opposing the Knyaz.   Dalvanak finds a shelf filled with brains. All but one are filled with intense feelings of fear and terror. One is defiant and a pirate brain. Upon eating it, Dalvanak gets the memories of Galfir Osceanstar, brother of Ralofir Oceanstar and went by the name Steely Dan. He was a pirate and a humanoid trafficker for the Tenth Pit. Eventually, his ship was decommissioned and he was betrayed by the organization. His brain was cruelly extracted and placed on the shelf. He does not know where the Tenth Pit headquarters is but knows Holstmann works for the Tenth Pit.   Leaving the tavern, the party go to rest at the Ocean's Wake before going to the office of Lieutenant Commander Ralofir Oceanstar. Finding him pouring over records and reports, and asks them what they want. In talking to him, Ralofir states that he thinks he is being framed and the party say that he was going to be assassinated. They come to the conclusion that they can help each other out. Ralofir says that someone is forging his signature and seal. Whoever did it has access to the squadron commander's office and authority to use his signature stamp. Whoever did it has a bank account with a non-elven bank and houses the goods in a warehouse outside the elven district. Whoever did it had to have had connections in the docks ward of the city and the provost marshal's office to get the equipment out and into other parts of the city since the docks ward has the central hub of cabs and carters. Ralofir says that a member of the Provost Marshal's office would have access to the commander's office, but there is no telling who it was.   Recalling that they have a trusty contact in the docks ward, the party went to the prikaz of Boris Fedorovich Khilkov, who got a promotion and welcomed them warmly. He also found some irregularities when the party relayed their findings.
