Historical Basis

The legend of Old Dark Eye has its roots in the history of Realmspace. During the First Unhuman War, a powerful radiant dragon named Kelaireth ruled over the Anadian Cluster, a region of space that included the planet of Anadia and its ancient satellites that have long since burned away. Kelaireth was known for her ferocity and her hatred of all non-dragonkind.
One day, a group of spelljamming ships entered the Anadian Cluster, seeking to establish a trade route between the planet and other worlds. Kelaireth saw this as a threat and attacked the ships with all her might. The battle was fierce, with the ships launching volleys of spells and weapons at the dragon, but Kelaireth was too powerful to be defeated.
Just when all seemed lost, a brave wizard on one of the ships cast a powerful spell that blinded Kelaireth in one eye. The dragon was forced to retreat, humiliated and injured. From that day forward, Kelaireth was known as Old Dark Eye, a fierce and dangerous foe who would attack any ship that came too close to her territory.

Variations & Mutation

There is some connection between Kelaireth and the Temple of Ptah. Some variation say that Kelaireth was in the service of the temple and guarded Anadia, thought to be the temple world of the church. Some retellings frame Kelaireth as a hero that was corrupted by the Necronomicon during the War of the Books. After her corruption, she burned the surface of Anadia so badly, it created the desert that exists today.
