Daruph fled the mountain. It was the royal family’s last effort to survive, as their age-old lineage was in peril. Her brother, Prince Iggierik, had just died, casualty to the Separatists’ war. Her father, King Iggierún, was too ill to rule, and control over the Silver Kingdom of Valdrag had been given to High Guidance Illimer Beltin. The new Head of State, Supreme Guidance Alabaster Black, had appointed him to power temporarily. But they never intended to give back control of such important lands.
Princess Daruph’s goal was to find a way to Ceniza and retrieve a spark of the First Ember, as tradition demanded. It was a ritual for kingship that all crowned dwarves had to complete, before sitting on the Ember Throne. She hoped to return with the spark, wield it as a symbol of promise and rally her people to freedom. She longed, above all, to restore her world, make things normal again, but nothing would ever be as it was ever again.
