Sinclaire Graph

Sinclair Graph is many things. Veteran, millionaire, visionary, humanitarian, loving husband, loving father. But above all, he is a man with deep-seated pain and regret for the who and what he could not save.   Being born into the noble Graph family, hailing from Germany (Or the equivalent), he upholds his family's honor and parts those practices on his children, even though he has grown disillusioned with a few of the practices. A vivid memory from his youth was of his great-grandfather in his home in his native Germany. A pale suit of armor stood with a sword clutched in its hands. His grandfather spoke to him about the honor of a soldier and that a clarion call should be answered when it came. His grandfather revealed that the armor belonged to his great-grandfather before him. This had an impact on Sinclairs' view of the war, the honorable knight, a hero in a land fit for them.   As Sinclair aged, he found a wife, Abigale. Soon, the two were wed and lived their lives happily; however, they had trouble conceiving a child. After years, they had their miracle child, Cole.   When the Clarion call finally arrived, he sought to live up to his family's name and put on his uniform to go to a strange land far away. His son, only 16 at the time, was told to stay home with his mother and left for the fields of battle in Spain (or the equivalent) to aid in the Precursor wars. During his time there, he met a comrade named Rio Gil, and through experience in the trenches, the two developed a brotherhood. The precursor wars were not as bloody as the Great War, at least not on the scale the Great War was, but it was still a deadly conflict. Sinclair became disillusioned with the prospect of war. It wasn't trained knights or line fire, it was just luck and keeping your head down. He heard word of new recruits on their way for a raid that was set to happen in a few days, and he paid no mind. When they arrived, his worst fear was realized.   Standing in a fresh army uniform, his only son. He was happy to see his father, but Sinclair was none too pleased. He berated him, screaming, "You don't belong here" and "Why did you come?". Cole simply stated that he wanted to "help him" and "be with him, that it was his duty just as much as it was Sinclair's". He brought it up to the CO, but he was only told it would be put under investigation, though the raid came sooner than the investigation finished.   During the raid, he and Rio tried to protect Cole as much as possible. Clearing the trenches slowly as Cole watched behind. When the trench was nearly cleared, a soldier threw a grenade, and the shrapnel missed Sinclair and Rio but caught Cole's stomach, causing his intestines to fall out. Cole layed there in the trench and cried for his dad to save him, but there was nothing Sinclair could do but sit there and hold him as Cole's body grew colder. Rio and him had to get to safety and thus had to leave his body to finish. When he did get the chance to come back, the spot he died in was a crater from an artillery strike. He never saw his son again, even in a casket.   This was a breaking point for him; he wasn't relaxed after, and he was always working or doing something, cleaning his shoes for hours on end, or forcing a conversation with Rio to get his mind off it. Eventually, though, his time of service came to an end. He packed up his bags and gave Rio his information, telling him he could work for him or help him. Rio thanked him and the two went their separate ways for now.   When he got home, he had to tell Abigale, and he told her simply, "he was not alone. I was there" and "It was quick. He didn't suffer." which was the one and only lie he ever did tell her. Home from the war, he worked and worked to keep his mind off Cole. He alienated Abigale for months working on projects and making the mansion, but what was the purpose of the mansion, if there was no one to liven the halls?   He and Abigale talked, they still wanted to be a mother and father, but with Cole gone, they decided to adopt. They adopted a baby girl and named her Ava and raised her like their own. A few years later, Sinclair received word from Rio that he was looking for a service position as a butler, and Sinclair hired him in a heartbeat.   Then the Great War began. Sinclair and Abigale decide to adopt more children, a young boy named Connor (adopted at 7), and a little girl named also named Abigale (adopted at 3), both children of war.   Sinclair never did get over Cole's death, but when the photos of the Great War came out, the flashbacks got him. Deeply. He began work on his newest project, an automation that could transfer medical supplies over the mud and rough terrain, terrain that cars could not get over, in hopes that he could help save people the way he couldn't save Cole. For months he locked himself up in his workshop, neglecting the mansion's maintenance to make this hommage for him. He sent it on its way and prayed that is could at least save one person.   A few months into its service, he received word from a government official that it would be seized and taken in as government property. No matter what laws he pulled, the automaton was taken. He waited for days, then weeks, then months. Until he heard word of a horror of steal. A monster that had killed many in the trenches. And then he saw the photo of it, he didn't even recognize it. It had been chained like a beast to follow the soldier's orders. It was a lifesaving machine, perverted into a symbol of death. The name "Rex King" coincided with "The Engineer of tomorrow". Sinclair anger and hate grew swearing to Rio that he was going to kill Rex King.   In his old age, his busy work life, and neglect of the mansion, he decided it was time to take on an apprentice. In his search, he was not expecting the very man who destroyed his creation to apply to work for him.       Flaws: He is always busy, to keep his mind off Cole, but that comes at the cost of his children really knowing him and seeking approval that he has, he just can't find the strength to tell them.   He is aggressive in his manner of tone and isn't kind for anyone outside of his family and Rio, and when he is kind he is very passive-aggressive about it.   His aggressiveness in arguments as he thinks he is the only one who right, and usually must be soothed by Abigale or humbled by Rio.   Sometimes he has to sleep under the bed, as that's where he feels the most safe. Insomnia and chainsmoking are also a problem with him too.   Strengths: He loves his family and always seeks to bring them up as best as he can, even at his own personal cost.   Even though he's a hardass to him, he does care for Rex and is concerned about his safety and well-being, even if he doesn't forgive him.   He is a mentor, he guides Rex through the strangeness of going from a suburban child to the apprentice of the best-known engineer. But more importantly, seeing him for what he really is, a broken and hurt young man. One that he very well might have been if he had to go through war at his age   Philosophy: Only when one creates something, can they leave a mark on the world. Rex has not created anything, only followed orders, replaced, modified etc. So in Sinclair's eyes, it's as though he's not even a man. Complicit in his own life. So he is hard on him, forces him to figure it out himself, to stand up for himself if he really wants something.    Description: Age: 68 Eyes: Blue Hair: White/grey beard Clothes: Business suit Notable features: He is a little more weighty, he has callused hands from working, and a cigar in his mouth. Always.
