Session 13 - The Chasm Ruins - Hettie's Notes

General Summary

Hettie's Notes continued (belated because I forgot I had written them):   Deborah, Pecorino and I caught up to the group at a waterfall. It had old buildings along the cliffside and down below, and we opted to follow a ‘trail’ down to the lower buildings while Mafaldine stayed above to look after our dear Pecorino.   On our way into the buildings we had an encounter with, of all things, a cute little girl and a lama … they turned out not to be cuties after all, but creepies! They tried to lure us off the edge of the cliff and into that water, and sprouted slimy tentacles. Whoever heard of kids made of seaweed? Apparently they’re called kelpies. So creepy.   To search more buildings we had to cross the waterfall, over a super slippery weed covered log. I almost fell off into kelpie infested water, a completely freaky experience. Thank goodness Rakki helped me to stay on. Inside the building had piles of boxes, and I spotted some greenish cylindrical crystals that refracted the light so gorgeously that I had to climb up to get them. Turns out the vines on the boxes were alive, oops! We fought the vine tendril thing, and it LIKED my lightning, eww creepy! Poison was better, but my spell went awry and I spent a minute in a silver misty realm. The mist clouds disappeared when I thought about them so I tried to think about my sister while waving a jar through to collect some.   The kelpie minions, little viney blighters, turned Shiv into a terrifying wolf! She’s cursed! And, one hugged me with its thorny tendrils, so not ok! I did not give permission for that. It was all slimy and cold and sharp! Eww eww eww!   It turned out Shiv is a very rare lycanthrope, such an honour to see one in real life! At least I assume it’s an honour, seeing rare things usually is. She’s a bit scary huge, but still seems friendly enough. She can do Dancing Lights too! It’s only a little blue orb, but still it means she must be a good person if she can make light. We promised not to tell anyone about her condition.   My pretty new crystals have some great carvings scrolling around them, very interesting. Most of the rest of the boxes seem to just be infested with normal vines. Two had a runic circle and are very cold with seeds inside, maybe a preservation thing? One had some ancient rotting cloth and a bronze rod, maybe a giant wand? It says “property of the Dal Anka reforestation project” - maybe it’s for sprouting the seeds?   Mafaldine mysteriously appeared at the top of the cliff telling us that some drow are crossing the waterfall and we needed to escape. I thought he might be one of those creepy vine girls so we asked him what’s for dinner. He promised we won’t eat Pecorino, so I guess that means Mafaldine isn’t a creepy girl after all.   We found a secret stone door that led into the mountain, but it was totally flooded, so Ilalai made us some handholds to scale the cliff up to Mafaldine instead. We climbed up under fire and Rakki fell to the ground at one point, thankfully not from too high up! I nearly fell myself later, and near the top Rakki got hit and knocked unconscious, so scary! But Diiroehn saved him before he fell, and Mafaldine levitated Ilalai up when she got paralysed.   After all that excitement I was almost glad that the walk back to town was uneventful and completely and utterly boring. Being safe is more important than excitement, right? I’ve given two of the crystals to the town leadership, they think they might be keys to some giant doors, but kept one for myself to investigate. Deborah will probably help me, she’s definitely my new best friend!
