Session 8 & 11 - The Jungle Foothills - Hettie's Lab Notes

General Summary

Hettie’s Lab Notes   Today I ran into a shifter guy who arrived on a ship in a bit of a panic, and offered him a spot on the shop floor to stay the night. Odd guy opted to sleep out in the courtyard instead. I gave him a fireworks demo with my latest experiments, test notes below:   _’Burning Wheel’ Test #3_   Test: Added 2 tsp of the powdered ‘dragonshard oil’ that Voroc brought me to my standard Burning Wheel construction.   Results: Wheel produced brilliant golden flames and a strong scent of sea salt. Wheel spin was unusually slow, probably due to the weighty of the powder. I think next time I’ll try the powder on a more static firework base. The scent gives me an idea, what about a beach themed fireworks party to celebrate the next boatload of settlers that arrives?   _A Quest!_ Time to investigate those drow and see if they took my sister.   More walking up and down hills. Eugh. At least my new friend Deborah shared her water with me. I was so sweaty by the end of the day. And my muscles, so sore!   We found a general store in the evening. The drow shop keeper was a useless salesman, he could have used an apprenticeship with my old master. I managed to trade some candles and sparkling rose fireworks for a goat, what a deal!! He wasn’t familiar with the idea of fireworks but was totally convinced when I explained that they’re like candles that make you happy.   I got such a shock when the shopkeeper attacked us! What abysmal service! And he had a couple of hidden friends. I took out the archer all by myself (well, apart from Shiv’s reflected arrow) and when I cast my firebolt the flames and I turned bluey-purple! It was so beautiful, what an enthralling colour, I NEED to find a way to replicate that in my fireworks. I’m liking my new look, it gives me a surprise every time I look at myself in a reflection though.   I took back the firework that I sold him, because it’s so not ok to attack someone you just traded with, it’s not the merchant way. I tried to ask him about the previous occupants of the town, but he was all confusing and thought we were firebinders again, and then said he knew the town, then that he didn’t know the town…crazy drow, he’s just as insane as that Telrentath guy, not useful at all.   More bonding time with Deborah the next day. We had a great time looking after our new goat, which has been named Pecorino, although figuring out a halter was harder than I expected. It seems that her favourite food is cloth, although Rakki said we should save it for treats and mostly feed her grass, how boring!   Late morning we discovered some drow attacking a poor confused giant. We rescued him and it turns out he’s related to the friendly giant hat just moved into town! But he was under some kind of runic curse, and we had to put him out of his misery, poor guy. I was so mad when Diiroehn killed the drow we were going to interrogate, now how will I get a lead on my sister???   By afternoon I was exhausted from all of the walking, I’m seriously not cut out for this kind of exercise. Deborah and I hung back a bit, looking after Pecorino and chatting. I wonder if I can get her to help me with my fireworks some time, surely her spells could make something quite spectacular. But first, we need a proper lab in this town!
