Talking sphere - Captain of the Ancient Giant Ship

A small, two-inch sphere of polished silver, inlaid with rings of brass, a small divot on top and bottom. When held between thumb and forefinger, it vibrated slightly, sounds and a voice filling the room. Elenora translated the Giant runes on the rings as maybe "Speaker", "Lector" or "Listener".
When pressed between thumb and forefinger, recorded sound comes out of the sphere:
