Mages from across the continent form the College of Magic, precursor to the Imperial College of Magic.
The founder of the the dynasty, Rurik, started life as a mere mercenary. By strength of his arm, he united the human tribes around what is now Ruriksted, and laid the first stones of Fort Dominik.
The Rurik empire has conquered and secured all lands north of the Celulinda River and south of the Mamrok Mountains.
23 RE - Rurik dies in battle at the gates of a Dwarven Holdfast, leading to a civil war among his sons and generals for control of the empire.
Civil war among Rurik's sons and generals for control of the empire. by 25 RE the Rurikid Empire is split in two, one side ruled by Dominik II (Rurik's oldest grandson), the other by Marat, Rurik's top general.
Dominik II successfully reunited the empire after defeating his Marat. His victories against internal enemies prompted his first military campaigns aimed southward against the Elves and Orcs.
Dominik II defeats Marat in battle and finally assumes control of all the armies and territories his grandfather Rurik had conquered.
Started by Dominik II, the War against the Orcs culminated at the gates of Zuhkzul under Emperor Dominik III. The Orcish machines had savagely rained fire on the Human forces, but they maintained the siege for nearly 2 years. Ultimately, it was treachery from within that doomed Orcish freedom when a starving youth opened the gates at midnight, allowing the Rurikid forces to take the half starved defenders by surprise. The Treaty of Zuhkzul created the template for incorporation of the subordinate kingdoms of Mididatoco into the Imperial framework.
Dominik did not last long. Murdered 2 years into his reign by his more ambitious brother Leonid, Dominik's reign was marked with lavish parties, questionable financial policy, and internecine violence.
Known as Leonid the Kinslayer or the Butcher, his raise coincided with the murder of his older brother, Dominik IV. His ambition however did not end in the Imperial Court, he sought conquest outside the borders. Soon he began the war against the Elves, coined Leonid's Butchery. His violence was swift and savage. He was ultimately successful, but at what cost?
The conquest of the Elves is still not spoken of within the Celoneryn Jungle. Leonid's savagery was limitless. Prisoners and civilians alike were brutally treated with summary executions of unfathomable cruelty. With sword and axe, the Rurikid forces marched through the jungle before finally, the Elves, appalled by the violence realized the only end to the violence was submission. The Elves were given the same term as the Orcs in the end, but some resentment continues within those who remember and those who do not forget.
Middle child of Leonid II, Katya is the only direct female descendant of Rurik, and the only Ivanov to show innate magical abilities. Katya spent much of her formative years at the Imperial College of Magic, but when Leonis II and her two brothers died in battle against the Dwarves, she assumed the throne until her newborn nephew Dmitri II was old enough to assume it. Through her cunning magic, she ultimately finished the final war with the Dwarves, forcing thier submission in 220 RE. Her triumphal return to Ruriksted is still discussed as the most magnificent display of Rurikid power.
The last Dwarven stronghold signs a peace treaty and submits fealty to the Rurikid Empire, which now rules the entire continent. Empress Katya is often considered the greatest of the Ivanovs, next to Rurik, for conquering what was once thought of as unconquerable. This begins the uneasy 100 years peace throughout the contintent.
Abstaining from assuming his rightful the throne until is aunt, Empress Katya, passed away, Dmitri II is most known for how different a ruler he was compared to his ancestors. More concerned with improving the lives of all the continent's citizens, Dmitri II sought help from his subject kingdoms to exchange knowledge, forming the Star Chamber. During his reign, the Star Chamber built cultural hubs so different tribes, races, and species could more easily exchange information. Because of this, these hubs quickly built some of the most success and wealthiest businesses and guilds within the empire.
Dmitri IV assumes the throne of the Rurikid Empire and the House of Ivanov at the age of 25, after the death of his father.
