Sarulana's Notes 1
I still feel like a fish out of water in this strange place. The oppressive feeling of things not-quite-finished on this island certainly isn’t helping. We ventured into the cave and were confronted by some kind of sea-hag, utterly deformed but still dangerous. She wondered what we were to do in her lair. I had an inkling she may be linked to some of the wretched souls above her and indeed she was. It seems she was a victim of the Dread Pirate Roberts also and the fact that we had defeated at least a part of him won us some favour with her. She allowed us to pass deeper into the cave and even warned us of some of the watery traps that lay ahead. Sure enough the corrupted soul of the pirate awaited us. I sent Oddtooth out at once but the poor beast was quickly sent back to the shadow. Eldur and Iss bravely fought right within its swinging distance as I did what I could as far away as possible, without hitting any of my party members this time! Eventually the evil thing was banished from the plane, leaving behind a now-ordinary-looking sword, and a strange sphere. Mirik found another sphere that looked like it may be the missing source of power of the lighthouse. Alma and I used our knowledge of the arcane to look at the sphere. Although I knew it was old magic, I could only guess at the item’s power, Alma is clearly a well-read scholar! (oh, that just makes me miss my book…) Eldur’s behaviour became increasingly antagonistic towards the group and particularly Alma, when she refused to give him the sphere. I tried to use my levitation spell to disarm him somewhat but the Tabaxi was clearly driven by something beyond this world and the spell failed. I was increasingly anxious that something was going to attack us from within the cave and we were fighting amongst ourselves. The witch returned and seemed very interested in the sphere although did not seem to be threatening us. Eldur killed the creature regardless. We finally lit up the lighthouse with the orb and were able to leave the cursed place. On the ship I learnt that I was beholden to the contract my predecessor had signed before. I tried speaking to the crew but apparently there are no loopholes, even in my peculiar situation. Eldur became increasingly annoyed at Alma and her refusal to give him the orb. I tried to speak with him to try and see sense but he had none of it and descended below deck. A few minutes later, he sprinted past me and darted up the ship’s mast… what a strange evening… I wonder what lies ahead on this plane, I wonder how Mother is...
