Serenrae

Serenrae is the official deity of The Empire. She is worshipped throughout the region, and there are places of worship in almost every town, village and city.
Serenrae's power infused Heralda at the end of The Time Of Darkness and she used this hero as a weapon to destroy the darkness in the world.
Because of the prevalence of a single religion several different factions and interpretations of her worship have evolved.
The Scourge and the Tears Of Serenrae have an extreme interpretation where they see Serenrae's healing light as a power to drive out the darkness the world. Their healing process is not necessarily without pain though. Their followers practice self-flagellation. Pain is seen as a useful and necessary sacrifice for good.
The Terragnations are an order of monks focused on healing and poverty.
'May the light shine upon you: and cleanse the world'
There are several factions in the Serenrae religion within the empire. These have startlingly contrasting veiwpoints on the tennets of faith.
The Scourge are a quasi political wing of the followers of Serenrae. They have risen to prominence in recent years, and wield great power in the capital. They have made an alliance with forces from Lucia and Westfall City to impose a blockade on the more religiously tolerant province of Verdant.
The Terragnations are a very tolerant order of monks and priests, who believe in charity and helping the downtrodden.  (of which there are many in the Empire)
