Brettonians
In the the World that Was, Brettonia was once the second most powerful nation in the Old War, surpassed only by the Empire.
Piece by piece, the Empire of Man by pen and sword the Empire annexed and assimilated most of the human lands near them.
Brettonia became a province of the Empire of Man but most of the Brettonians resented the Empire and were slow to assimilate to the Empire's way, especially their devotion to the Church of Sigmar.
After floods and geological disasters rocked the Old World and the Empire of Man split apart into four nations. Most of the new nations were amalgams of multiple nation, but Brettonia reasserted itself as Brettonia, retaining most of their original land from Brettonia of yesteryear.
After all the nations licked their wounds, during The Age of Exploration , Brettonia raced with New Kislev and Estalia to colonize as much of the Old World as they could.
Brettonia was both more and less successful than their rivals. On one hand, Estalia and New Kislev both colonized far more land than Brettonia did with Brettonia eventually ceding many of their land rights away. On the other hand, Most of New Kisleve and Estalia's colonies declared independence while the Brettonians still formally hold their northern colony of Cebeque, which is now the largest New World province legally subject to rule by the Old World.
Not all New World Brettonians are in Cebeque. The United States of Hammerica is melting pot and while the dominant culture is from New Kislev, there are many ethnic Brettonian settlers in the West, some have assimilated with the dominant Estalian or New Kislevite norms but others resist assimilation and choose to live in isolated Brettonian ethnic communities.
