Elves
Millenia ago, the elves were split into multiple warring factions but a variety of cataclysms have forced the surviving elves to put aside their differences. Among other things, the land once known as Ulthuan sank beneath the sea. Ulthuan sank bit by bit over several months so most of the elves were able to evacuate but their original homeland was lost. The Forests of Loren and the Land of Naggaroth were both devestated by Chaos attacks and assorted supernatural disasters after the Chaos hordes were beaten.
Where once there were High Elves, Wood Elves, and Dark Elves, now they are just "Elves." Most Wood Elves merged with the forest spirits they allied with. The High Elves and Dark Elves eventually mended fences and reunified (and most of the upper leadership of both factions was dead). Most modern elves have ancestry to both the ancient Dark Elves and ancient High Elves.
Their new homeland of New Ulthuan is kind of halfway between the New World and the Old World. While not every Elf is a wizard, far from it, Elves have a greater knack for magic than most other races left in the world.
Nicknames for Elves usually center around their ears. "Pointy Ears," "Long Ears," or just "Ears" are common nicknames for the race. Since a lot of live stock is referred to by "Long Ears" that is generally the least flattering term for them though "Soggy Bottoms" is an even more insulting term because it refers to Ulthuan sinking into the sea.
A few Elves have migrated to the Wild West, seeking their fortunes like the many other people there are. There are very few all-elf settlements but Elves are generally welcome among Humans and others.
