De Relegatio Homines
This document is a controversial and almost certainly fraudulent text circulated widely in Duntown and beyond in the last hundred years or so. It is particularly linked with Pater Ty Holan's restoration of the Dendrach faith.
De relegatio homines (On the Banishment of Humans) is supposed to be a secret text written by a group of elven leaders. It contains their plans to weaken humanfolk and their culture by 'weakening their stock' by encouraging interbreeding with elves, catfolk, orcs and other peoples, to limit the spread of Dendrah worship by introducing exotic foreign gods and to control the region's economy by preventing the building of settlements east of the Armont.
All serious scholars reject the text as baseless propaganda, and some erroneously point to Holan as a possible author, when in fact it was in circulation long before he was born. There are those in the common folk, however, that believe it to be a real record of elven thought.
Purpose
The purpose of the pamphlet is undoubtedly to provoke distrust and even hatred of the elven folk. However, if the document is taken at face value by an idiot, it appears to record the hatred of the elves for humans. Which then fulfils the purpose of the pamphlet.
Historical Details
Background
De relegatio homines is first attested during the 650s or 660s, when it is said to have been discovered by scholars of the Academica. The document is supposed to have been very old at the time of this discovery, with the original written in a language long dead at the time. The text is only known in translation, with the purported original never having been made available for study.
Public Reaction
The emergence, translation and distribution of De relegatio homines is inextricably linked with the popular restoration of Dendrah worship and the rise of Human Supremacy. In the unusually hot summer of 685, there were a series of riots in Duntown that led to the departure of the last few elves in the city for the Western Forest. This, at the time, was seen as a cause for celebration.
