With Risorgimento , the "Roman Question" hangs heavy over St. Peter's Basilica and the Catholic Church. Officially, Rome is incorporated as part of the Kingdom of Italy following the 1870 Capture of Rome, but where Papal authority ends and Italian authority begins is unclear even to the residents of the city.
Despite being the home of King Umberto Rainerio Carlo Emanuele Giovanni Maria Ferdinando Eugenio di Savoia's Throne, the Papacy does not recognize any legal authority by the King of Italy over the Papal States and, in return, the Kingdom still claims dominion over all of the Italian Peninsula.
