The War of the Two Dragons

Military action

542CE
667CE

The War of the Two Dragons was a conflict that spanned over a hundred years, and started on the spring of 542 when River King Sigiburg, then a merchant and raider, led his people to the Westerlands in order to escape the Great Wild.

The first years of the conflict were marked by irregular raids on villages, as the Riverfolk would move swiftly along the rivers, and attack even faster, leaving before Westfold forces would even be mustered. However, all that would change on the eve of 545, when a belligerent Sigiburg would capture one of the forts in the riverlands, sending a shock wave of surprise across Westoria.   After that, for ten years Sigiburg would become a figure of terror in the Western collective, as he not only continued to capture more forts, but even defeated the Westfold armies on pitch battles, and being the cause of the death of two Dragon Kings.   With the death of Sigiburg, his eldest, having already proven himself in the last ten years, would take command of the Riverfolk forces. And for another year he would continue being a scourge on the Riverlands, although he would be unable to take more land. However, with the new Dragon King looking for vengeance, he would be challenged into duel for the conquered lands. This however would prove foolish for the Dragon King, as he would be slain in battle by the River Snake.   Soon William Langrave, the younger brother of the late Dragon King would ascend to the throne as king. And although he would be urged to seek vengeance, either because he witnessed the end of three kings, or because of pragmatism, he instead seek a peace treaty with the River King, going as far as marrying one of his sisters to him so long as he took the religion of the land. But although this secured peace for the land, he would forever be mocked by his progeny and on his time. Forever being known as the Appeaser. Dagobert on the other hand, ever the cunning man, would gladly accept this peace terms to consolidate his gains. Going so far as to name his firstborn Guillame in honor of the Dragon King.   After the peace treaty, the land would finally see peace for the most part, as Dagobert would go on and try to consolidate the gains of his father.       The Westfold King would claim that the land was lost, as even the small folk had started to have scales.
