FAO Court, Dancers, Scribes T Darksun Subject: ‘Crucible of Souls’

Scribe’s Notes:

Court should be advised that we have made pretty significant progress over the last week, but that control schema are still lagging behind the other functions. I have made the executive decision to dispatch a team to secure some of the components I need to hopefully accelerate, based on Wiskerville’s politely worded by ridiculous demands for a functional alpha unit by next week.
I note that this is achievable, but we will have to ditch the testing plans, and any of the detailed tuning or capability extensions. I can get you a barebones unit, but fels help me if it’s used too much or outside the design parameters.
The limitations on the control function mean that this is NOT a precision weapon. Radius of effect is going to be a function of how much energy is discharged, but ‘big’ is probably good enough for the layperson. It is STRONGLY advised that the Crucible is not used to target anything smaller than a village until we can refine it.
I’m not going to have time to make a proper essence-lock for activation of the Crucible for next week – it will have to be added to the nice-to-haves, so I STRONGLY suggest that direct access to the unit is limited by physical controls.

Technical Readout

Functionality remains nominally as per previous report. No major technical or spellwork obstacles have been encountered with the principles underlying the construction of the Crucible.
Base Unit

Bass unit physical specifications are about complete.

Materials still missing; high purity gold and dead wood still required for final construction. This must be considered a matter of urgency

Integration of Draenei construct (‘Vigilant’) principles has led to a notable uptick in storage density.

Resonance looping is as complete as we can afford it to be; storage density is up to about 70% of target. This’ll do for the main alpha unit but can and will be improved.

Pathway

Pathway functionality essentially complete, acquired legion teleportation tech, and Auchenai Soul Conduit samples have improved the pathway stability to nominal levels.

Still requires final integration; and review of literature to make sure we’ve not missed anything.

Control

Significant progress made; targeting function has been designed and partially completed. Device uses spells to determine its own position in local-azerothian space by combining references to a dimensionally fixed point and nether-drift calculations.

-The short version is that, when properly used, the Crucible will know where it is. Targeting is therefore, in the first instance, based purely on dead reckoning (users will need to know how far, and in what direction, the target is away from the base unit). This is a hack job but it’s the best I can do on short notice.
