The University of Peridan
There are many colleges and institutes of higher learning within the Human Territories, and each one has its specialty. But the University of Peridan stands out because it specializes in draconian studies and history. It is not the only college that covers this subject, but it is the oldest and most respected.
The college was, surprisingly, built after The Great Rebellion, not long after Peridan was founded. Given that tensions were high during this period, many didn’t welcome the idea of a college that allowed the study of dragons. It has been destroyed and rebuilt five times over the years. However, the perseverance of those seeking to unravel the mysteries of our former deities eventually won in the end, even if the dragons still don’t like it. That is why the university only exists on the human side of the city.
However, being admitted is no small feat. While other studies simply require a written exam and prior educational records, to be admitted for draconian studies, a written report and an endorsement from a professional in the field are also necessary. Even after admittance, it’s a cutthroat business. Students are expected to maintain a high grade-point average and a thesis every two years until they complete their 8-10 years of study. I have been unable to discern the exact reason for such a strict and demanding curriculum, but the theory is that everything we create is used in the design of laws and products involving dragons.
Many of the most renowned dracologists, including myself, have attended this university for that very reason. Unfortunately, many of my fellow scholars have a skewed opinion of dragons and their culture despite neighboring their source material—a weakness I once shared until my eyes were opened. This is further coupled with the fact that dragons avoid the place as if it’s haunted, and few of them are willing to debate their history with a human. Complicating matters further, it has also never admitted a single dragon student or employee. Not that any are applying in the first place, but how could they when acceptance is rooted in human culture?
It is truly a shame. Dragons treat education differently than we do. Instead of attending college, they go to special clans known as “covens” if they wish to pursue higher education. I would love to discuss with one of their scholars and compare notes, but covens are more restrictive in their admittance than human institutions and rarely share their knowledge.
Could the dragons avoiding the place like the plague have something to do with them keeping dragon remains there after seeing Felilia's reactions? Even so, those who run this school seem to have painted themselves into a curious position. Blind and with both hands tied behind their backs, they try to study from afar those who are probably walking and flying by just outside.
