Battle of Mistaken Identity
Mutual Misunderstanding
They spotted upon the horizonThis battle was fairly small-scale, and did not affect much beyond the lives the sailors who perished. However, it has become a popular tale on Nokte, and is the subject of several drinking songs and shanties.
A ship laden with goods to steal
With greed their eyes did brighten
But the merchant had something to reveal.
Disguised Warships
Pirate ships often disguise themselves when traveling into dangerous territory, and it was no different for both the Sky Serpent and the Noble's Heart. The Sky Serpent was heading back from a black market trading trip, their hold full of ilicit goods, disguised as an Imperial Navy corvette. The Noble's Heart was headed towards the black market that the Sky Serpent had just left, and was likewise disguised as an Imperial ship, but a trading one.Double Surprise Attack
The Sky Serpent, though they could have simply continued on their way, decided to try and steal from the percieved merchant vessel. They opened fire on the ship and broadcasted a demand for surrender, and were thoroughly surprised when the supposedly unarmed trading ship returned fire. The vessels traded blows for several minutes, before the Sky Serpent struck a fatal blow to the engine of the Noble's Heart. Upon boarding the dying ship, in order to take their loot, the captain's of each ship recognized each other and realized their mistake.Repercussions
Since this event, pirates have begun broadcasting a signal to ships that they pass. This signal changes often, as to not allow the authorities to catch on and apprehend criminals, and always appears innocuous, but allows pirates to identify each other to prevent battles like this from happening.Belligerents
