Shattered Worlds
The border of the unending Blue
We have a lot of old maps people tried to make of the islands out there among the shattered worlds. After a few dozen completely barren rocks covered in nothing but dust, they gave up.A ring of small islands surrounds the main asteroids of the Wilde Blue, most of them little more than barren boulders floating in the sky. There have been several attempts to colonize the larger of these islands, but all have failed to various reasons. In one notable case, the earth of the island was too weak to support buildings and crumbled underneath the attempted colony. Because of the sheer quantity of small rocks and boulders that make up the ring, any attempt to fully map the area has been futile, and because of the size of the islands, the exact location tends to drift from year to year. Recently, for reasons unknown, both the Empire and the Trade Union have been sending cargo ships to gather large amounts of the small rocks found floating in the belt, bringing them back to their respective capitals for study. Such missions are treated with utmost secrecy, and the Empire's reports, though stored in the Imperial Archives, are guarded day and night. The Trade Union's missions are likewise kept secret, though by compartmentalizing each and every task with a different clan. Through some careful research, it is clear that the Trade Union is gathering some, but not all of the rocks collected in warehouses around Sayles but nothing more can be determined at this time.
Geography
The shattered worlds are filled with clouds of tiny rocks and dust that hover in the air, blocking vision in most places. Without any large islands to draw moisture into clouds and eventually rain, the air is like a desert, dry and hot. This, coupled with the dust clouds, keeps the area incredibly cold, leaving almost all of the water in the area frozen into the rocks and tiny islands. The terrain on the handful of islands that are large enough to support occupation, if only for a small while, is craggy, which has led to the belief that gave the ring its name: that these islands were once one whole, and broken apart by some unknown force. Living in the shattered worlds is possible with modern technology, though usually the cost and effort of fitting a buoyancy system to a barren rock is not worth the reward of a personal island in one of the least hospitable places in the Blue. Anyone hoping to stay long amounts of time among the ring will need filtration systems to keep their lungs free of the tiny dust-like rocks, which will tear through flesh with razor-sharp edges. The cold can also easily affect the buoyancy systems of ships spending too much time traveling through the area. Early in the history of the Blue, this caused the shattered worlds to be a soft border, preventing anyone from crossing it. With modern technology again this can be surpassed, but what lies outside the shattered rocks and dust lies only more rocks and dust in finer and finer qualities.Natural Resources
While a few of the rocks have been found to have high quantities of rare earth metals, the large majority are no more than ice and dust crushed together.
Show spoiler
There are a large number of rocks with a small amount of Hyacinem. Where usually a large island might have maybe a dozen small crystals, the islands of the Shattered Worlds, despite being a minuscule fraction of their size, can have coin-sized crystals contained within them.
