Session 23: Sea Cave of Wonders
General Summary
In the aftermath of the attack by the sahuagin on the ship Eryn'alqua, the party finds a instructions on the priestess for the sahuagin. The instructions directed the creatures to wait for anyone to pass through the channel leading out of the Boreal Omen river and to search their bodies for a whip with 5 snake heads. Then, deliver that whip to a point along the opposite side of the bay along the Dunrock Mountains. This peaked the interest of the party.
There was some discussion as to whether they should go to Bysaes Tyl first or not, but they ultimately decided to visit this drop off point first.
The party asked Captain Ellred Yllahana to drop them off just north of that spot and then the party will make their way into Bysaes Tyl afterwards. They quickly discovered that the mountains met the ocean and formed a steep cliff at the sea. Sailing south slightly, they found a wet sea cave about where the map said it would be. They got in a small row boat and got within 100 yards to be dropped off. Brother Les then cast Water Walk and they all walked the rest of the way, over the constant moving waves, to the sea cave.
They crept up slowly, some first thinking it was all grey and without detail. But that quickly came into focus.
Just inside, up on a ledge, they noticed a guard, serpentine in appearance (with a tail instead of legs) that was not paying attention to the entrance of the cave. Atreena crept up slowly along the crashing waters that rushed into the cave and took a spot opposite of the entrance, just below the ledge where the creature was cleaning it's nails.
They party then jumped on the attack, throwing lightning, eldritch blasts, crossbow bolts and Atreena trying to grapple it to capture it. During this attempt, it managed to fire off a explosive arrow shot farther into the cave. The party then quickly dispatched it afterwards.
After a moment to find out if anyone was coming, and none did, they moved in farther into the darker area of the cave.
While the cave had a smaller entrance, it opened up quickly inside and was dotted along it's walls and ceiling with blue glowing crystals. Pooka attempted to take some of the crystal but they stopped glowing once they were not connected to the earth.
Farther into the sea cave, still walking on water, the party found a group of misshapen snake/human hybrid monstrosities that were waiting for them at a small rickety dock leading into a dry part of the cave. More combat ensued, most notably Atreena stabbing up from under the dock into the legs of the creatures, but they were quickly dispatched. Being alerted clearly did nothing to stop the intrusion by the party.
Deeper inside they found some more humanoid Yuan-Ti that were having a discussion and quickly killed them. They found a note amongst the storage boxes and barrels that gave instructions to these Yuan-Ti to search the cave for a "beacon" and to await a delivery of the Lash of Shadows. Once they collected these items, they were to return to the usual location in the Menagerie Coast.
Zanthros put up his tiny hut and the party took a short rest, with no interruptions.
Around the corner, they found some more Yuan-Ti, 2 of which had explosive arrows, but they proved unable to stop the party as well.
At the far corner of this room, they discovered a door built into the wall. It had sharp, jadged symbols etched into it that some members of the party realized looked Aeorian in origin (based on their trek to Eiselcross previously). Atreena found the double doors were unlocked, they decided to open it up.
Inside they found a medium sized chamber with multiple Yuan-Ti bodies littering the ground. Standing imposingly before another set of double doors on the opposite side of the room was an 8 foot tall stone statue. At the sight of the party, it asked in a monotone, booming voice, "PASSWORD?"
The party does not know the password. What will the party do?
