The planes are governed by a pantheon of gods consisting of three groups: The Prime Deities, The Betrayer Gods, and the Lesser Idols. The Prime Deities and The Betrayer Gods typically don't descend down to the material plane, instead working through intermediaries such as Clerics, Paladins, and Warlocks. The Prime Deities are the commonly openly worshiped deities of most temples and churches. They forged the mortal races that inhabit the material plane. These gods hold sway over many of the major powers of the plane, such as truth, love, fate, death, sunlight, and many others. While these gods may disagree, they are united in an alliance dedicated to ensuring the survival of their creations. The Betrayer Gods are those who have decidedly more selfish motivations. These gods rarely work together seeing one another as threats to their own goals. These gods have little interest in mortals other than using them to further their own goals. This led to the Prime Deities banishing them. Those who worship these gods will not admit to doing so other than to other known worshipers. The Lesser Idols are beings of demi-goldy power who take on splendid and profane forms to amass their own cult followings that worship them in relative secret. Some are supernatural beings such as Archfey and Archfiends that have taken up near-permanent residences on the material plane. Most are mortal champions who have gained near-divine power. In any case, the worship imbues these idols with fragments of divine power allowing them to grant scraps of power back to their champions and while they are not as popular as the Prime Deities their worship is not typically seen as shameful or immoral.
