Seaxe Meal Customs
The Seaxe have some specific culinary customs unique to their society. The most unusual custom is centered around who will eat at the head of the table. Whichever member was the last to capture and kill an animal is the person to be seated at the head of the table. This can range from the master of the household, to the scullery made who took out a rat. Due to this, the master of the house has usually an ornate chair rather than a specific position at the table. So as he is shuffled around he table his chair goes with him. Originally this tradition dictated who would gain the largest portion of the day's food. Over time it expanded to permit any member of the household, or guest, to be able to participate in the rite. This meal custom is observed for supper each day excepts for special holidays.
Some of the other customs that the Seaxe practice now have been adopted from the Estmerian people. They each meal will set aside a small portion of their food to appease the spirit realm. With the Estmerian people they are attempting to appease the sprits of the world they live in, as per the old empire customs. The Seaxe are more concerned with appeasing the spirit world, and strengthening their ancestors. They believe that they must keep their ancestor's spirits strong in order to ward off the bad luck that evil that spirits would attempt to direct at them.
War parties of the Seaxe have an interesting custom where the commander of any given party will eat a small portion of each of the meals of the troop under him. The idea is to unify the group, and to ensure that they are eating things of quality. It is important that each member of the party have as close to a complete meal as possible so that they can be an effective member of the team.
