Siege of Warwick
The siege of Warwick was a rapid campaign by a Seaxe Earl to conquere an Estmarian coastal city. Taking place roughly thirty years after the official collapse of the old empire, this was the first time that the Estmarians were forced to realize that they were no longer the most powerful group interested in Ethilia.
The result of this siege established the Earldome of Solvgast.
The Conflict
Prelude
The Seaxe people had been raiding the western coast of Ethilia for nearly 80 years leading up to the invasion of the city of Warwick.
Deployment
The Seaxe people arrived by ship, deploying during the night, and arraying their forces against the city and its garrison the following day.
The city was not well guarded at the time. It had its standard group of city watch, but had yet to hire it's usual raiding season garrison. This gave the Seaxe invaders the edge they needed to take the city without facing devastating losses.
Outcome
[Earl Selred of Warwick] became ruler of the city of Wulfstein and renamed it Warwick. He took over the surrounding area, and lead his people over, effectively colonizing the city with Seaxe people. This pushed many of the Estmerian natives out of it to the other remaining cities of Ethilia.
Earl Selred became the effective owner of the only Wulfstone mines in Ethilia. A material of great utility, and a certain fascination of the Dwarves.
Aftermath
Warwick has become the foothold for the Seaxe people within Ethilia. Forcing the Ethilian duke to acknowledge and work with the Seaxe people as they slowly migrate in.
Historical Significance
Legacy
Earl Selred had his son Beornnoth Selredson marry the the daughter of the late margrave Engra. He did this in attempt to placate the Estmerian population that still lived within the city.
