Tokli, The World-Devourer
The World-Devourer
It is the Inevitable. The End. You only prolong your fleeting existence.- The Serpentine Priestess
All-Consuming God of Eternal Hunger
It is said that the gods are indifferent to the struggles of Man. Nothing epitomizes this idea more than that of the World-Devourer.
It does not care whether you live or die. It does not care for the laws of the land, nor good nor evil. It is beyond such human motives. The Devourer simply comes. It is the way of things.
The Devourer's arrival is a matter of when, not if. Yet Its fanatics seek to usher in the Serpent sooner than the natural cycle. To merely observe the beauty of terror is not enough. They wish to, if only for a mere moment, become the sublime before nothingness overtakes their person. And to accomplish this, they seek to conjure the Serpent.
History
A name stricken from the annals of history and dared not be spoken by even the most wretched folk. May the people of this world never bare witness to It.- Unknown Scholar
There is little true history of the Devourer to be spoken of. Its realm lays far beyond the possibilities of human travel, and any possible knowledge of its past would be closely guarded by Its worshippers.
All that remains are hushed legends, spoken by scattered peoples and as reliably true as an Alchemist's word. That is to say, not at all.
Appearance and Divine Symbolism
Words cannot describe a being of such enormity and still cling to truth. Its true form is not known, and yet it is insisted that It is the Great Serpent. The image of the Devourer, Its serpentine form coiled around our world, is known to all who dare recall that cursed name. The Serpent suffocates our oasis of life, before consuming it whole.
The devout symbolize the Serpent much the same. Delicately handcrafted icons depict serpentine forms shaped of wood or metal coiled around an orb of any chosen material.
