Golden Slumber

A Golden Slumber is a small little trinket that is said to be able to give you a good sleep at night. Made from a mix of Everwood from Terra Eclipsis and gold, Golden Slumbers are often put at one's bedside, facing towards them, and it's said that the energy exuded from them is enough to bring good dreams to the owner. These trinkets have become particularly popular as a form of comfort for both Lyudi from Strakh and for the general populace after The Withering.

History

Golden Slumbers were made by a Elf named Yig, whom had moved to Earth and was living in New Orleans. They were made based on a story he had heard from locals in the area about glowing balls that people reportedly saw in the swamps at night-- of which was speculated to be a Wisp. Yig was said to have travelled into the swamps and seen one of these balls, and according to him:

I'd have taken a picture of this strange orb, and I swear, the thing looked to have had two small little arms and four legs. That same night when I got home, I swear, I had a wonderful sleep. It was as if I was blessed by something, and the timing felt far from coincidental to me.

Wanting for his own daughter to have these good night sleeps, but being unable to find or catch one of these glowing orbs, Yig had decided to create a trinket based off of them. After creating the first one, he opted to name them 'Golden Slumbers', for the good slumber that he gained after seeing one. Afterward, he began to make more of them, selling them to friends and family before eventually getting together a small group of locals in New York to make a whole bunch of them for anyone to get.

Nowadays after The Withering, Yig and his family lives in NEO City, but they've continued to make plenty of these with the help of a few folks there. They're popular amongst those who wish for a good night's sleep, especially for the Lyudi on Strakh. Although it's hard to say if they actually do bring a good's night sleep or not, the cute design of them as well as the reassuring smile on it tends to sell people on the idea that they will. And really, why wonder if they work or not when people believe they do?

Variants

On occasion, people associated with Yig will often make different variants of the Golden Slumber, either from their own local stories of the Wisps or other such locations. Oftentimes, these Golden Slumbers will be based off of various bugs that the creators have seen or heard of. This can include the following:

"The Boy"

Not much is really known about where this variant of a Golden Slumber came from, though a few have speculated that the creator of it was fond of bugs, and was a bit of someone who rather loved space. Their variant of a Golden Slumber is said to bring you pleasant dreams about bugs and space.

Eggbug

With a common addage about it being a friend that some people may recongnize, an Eggbug variant of the Golden Slumber lacks the gold hue of the others, but still has just as much shine. An Eggbug Golden Slumber is said to bring you dreams of friendship, of people being connected with one another in healthy ways.

A faux Golden Slumber

Unfortunately, there are a few trouble-makers who make offbrand versions of the Golden Slumber. It's often suggested by some that these are made without the same love and care as the others and as a result, they end up bringing you bad dreams and, supposedly, even bad luck. Needless to say, this version of the Golden Slumber is not approved by Yig, with him and his family often working to get rid of any of these odd offbrand ones.

Typtically, a Golden Slumber is made out of gold and Everwood, though sometimes another material can be used in the place of gold, such as copper or bronze. The eyes and mouth on it are Everwood that has been glued on and then painted black.

Author's Notes

Okay, so credit is due for the variants here. "The Boy" is based on a design for a cute bug by Narotiza and Eggbug is owned by the (sadly now defunct) Anti-Software Software Company; it was a mascot made by them for their (sadly now defunct) social media website, cohost. So I guess this is technically a tribute to that site!
