Lunar Vault
The Lunar Vault is the biggest vault ever made by The Stars, as well as the most important. Within this vault was a massive collection of artifacts belonging to the Stars, left within the structure to be discovered by the civilizations that came long after their time. Upon it being opened up in the 90s, it resulted in many discoveries that affected each and every realm upon the Yggdrasil.
Purpose / Function
Much like the other Vaults that have been discovered by the inhabitants of the different realms and subsuquently investigated, the Lunar Vault holds a massive wealth of knowledge in recards to the arcane and the supernatural, as well as detailed histories of that of the Stars and the Nephilim before everything else. Alongside that, there were hundreds of magical artifacts and trinkets that were designed by the Stars, including a massive cache of Blood Keys,
The Lunar Vault, however, held much more than just that. Of note within the Lunar Vault:
The Infinity Mechanism
We activated it. Everyone is connected now.
The Infinity Mechanism is essentially a key. When it was activated, it sent a signal throughout all of the realms on the Yggdrasil, one that reached every Vault found in them. Reality twisted and turned, shifting until within each Vault, a gateway formed that connected Earth, Terra Eclipsis, The Sands, and Strakh. Once the Mechanism was activated, it could not be stopped-- any attempt at disabling it is met with failure.
Xepher, The Last Scribe
Hello! It's been quite a long time since I've been awake! Hm, I detect that none of you are Stars. My name is Xepher, how may I help you?
Alongside the Lunar Vault being opened, a lifeform activated and made itself known within the massive structure. This was Xepher, a Scribe-- an ancient artificial construct that acted as a servant to the Stars. It's through them that Humanity would eventually develop the Machina.
History
The exact construction of the Lunar Vault is unknown, though according to Xepher, it was constructed shortly after an event known as the Götterdämmerung occured in the 900s. Although the details of this event are sparse, the most that is gathered is that to preserve their history for the other realms to learn from, the Stars constructed hundreds of vaults across the realms, filling them with as much knowledge and magical artifacts as they could spare.
As for the Lunar Vault itself, it was designed seemingly with the purpose of uniting the realms together when the time demanded for it. To facilitate this, a massive superstructure was designed, with a core filled to the absolute limit with as much Resolve as they could manage. Although it's never been determined on if it was The Refractor spoken of in Myth, it's suggested that the amount of Resolve used was around 1/10th that of what was released during The Withering.
The Lunar Vault was discovered December 1974, during the Apollo 18 moon landing. The discovery was classified by the U.S. Government until the early 90s, after the end of the Cold War. At this time, more and more Vaults were being discovered across the globe, which prompted researchers to begin investigating the Lunar Vault. After joint efforts between the United States and the newly established Russian Federation resulted in the creation of the NSP, a team led by Major Tom was sent up to investigate and open the Lunar Vault.
Upon entering the vault, the astronauts met Xepher, whom quickly showed them around and revealed the secrets of the vault to them. Little did any of them know, the Infinity Mechanism was set by an unknown third party to activate on a timer as soon as the vault was opened. Later investigation revealed it to be the result of Iris Nox having intruded upon the Vault before Earth had discovered it, though the means by which she had done this remains unknown.
Needless to say, everyone was caught off-guard by the activation of the Infinity Mechanism, the entire vault shifting through reality. A massive blast of light could be seen across not just Earth, but all of the realms as Vaults everywhere began to connect to each other through the Yggdrasil. Although this was seen at the time as a shock to everyone, fully throwing the realms into a larger world than ever before, it was ultimately that which would pave the path to a form of unity occuring, bringing the realms closer together than they had been in centuries.
It would also pave the way for the eventual destruction of the realms at the hands of The Withering.
