Bots

Since we use Discord, we have the added benefit of using Discord bots to help automate most of the game’s bookkeeping and game functions. The two bots you will be using the most heavily are Avrae (The Merchant) and Rod (The Voices).   Avrae (The Merchant) is the backbone of our game and handles all the things we come to expect and need from D&D. Dice rolls, inventory management, stats and character sheets, combat, anything and everything related to game functions is powered by Avrae. Most of this is achieved through Avrae’s partnership with D&D Beyond, an online repository hosted by Wizards of the Coast containing the whole of D&D 5E content. If you’re new to using Avrae, we recommend checking out the help documentation at https://avrae.readthedocs.io/en/stable/ (or at least bookmarking it so you know where to look if you need it).   Second to Avrae is Rod (The Voices). We love Rod. We also hate Rod. But mostly love, because Rod is the best at what Rod does – and that’s allow us to create “aliases” for our characters and NPCs. Aliases are unique commands that when used take the messages we send and transform them into a post from the desired character, as if it were the character themselves posting. In this way, if a player ever decides to change characters, leave the server, or whatever else have you, the character’s posts are preserved and can still be searched later (also it looks nicer). You’ll learn more about how to use Rod during character creation.   Besides these two, we have a handful of bots for helping with specific admin tasks and functions:
  • Stat Bot (Lauren) helps staff keep track of post analytics; Fredbot (Requiem) plays music if/when we decide to
  • Pronoun Picker helps us learn what you prefer to be referred as (if you choose to opt-in)
  • Dyno (Guild Crier) handles most of our fancy embeds and announcements
  • Tatsu (The Ordning) powers our social rank system, which we use to delegate certain rights to community members.
You don’t necessarily need to know how to use or interact with these bots to play, but if you’re curious, feel free to bug staff.
