Character Sheet Managers

To play D&D you need a character sheet. To play D&D in Chromatia, you need to be able to integrate your sheet with Avrae. So, it stands to reason that you need to create your character sheet on a site supported by Avrae. Avrae supports gSheets, DiceCloud, and D&D Beyond. However, for our own sanity, staff specifically request players use DiceCloud or D&D Beyond unless you have a specific need for gSheets the other tools don’t support. It makes it easier for us to sort through your sheets later. What’s the difference, you might ask?   D&D Beyond automatically handles 99% of content, but it’s worth noting that homebrew is … well, it can be a chore. DDB’s customization tools are wanting, but not unmanageable. As we don’t use too many customizations on our server, DDB tends to be the sheet manager of choice so you, the player, can do the least amount of work to set up and update your sheet as your character gains levels and grows in strength. Do note, however, that character sheets on DDB can only use unlocked compendium content – more on this later.   DiceCloud, on the other hand, is a simple and effective UI that allows players to enter verbatim their skills and abilities. The most distinct advantage of this is that homebrew and customization is very easy by comparison, but you will have to manually enter everything when you level up.   The gSheets tool is effectively a carbon copy of the vanilla 5E character sheet, which by itself isn’t bad, but when abilities and effects start getting more detailed, it can all have a hard time fitting on the sheet and in turn creates a bunch of unnecessary clutter. It’s not unmanageable. But if the game masters ever need to consult your sheet for anything, it can be cumbersome. So again, please refrain from gSheet unless there’s a need the other managers don’t support.   Whichever tool you choose to use, we can help you with any technical issues (or at least point you in the right direction). Start in #ask-a-gan, but for specific help, Wraith and Gan are usually the best to bug about DDB, and Kira is the best to bug for DiceCloud.
