Mount List

Basic Mounts

The below chart displays mounts that are broadly available in the world, and can generally be purchased from established tradeposts and large settlements without any special requirements. Mounts on this list are generally considered "domestic" and typically make fast bonds with their riders as a result.   Be aware that unless a mount's stat block specifically states it is trained for combat (like the warhorse), a basic mount is no different than a typical Hirelings in this regard. They avoid obviously dangerous areas, and if forced into combat will only take the dodge, disengage, or dash actions until out of the fight, and will only attack in self-defense if they have no other option.

Exotic Mounts

Exotic mounts have a listed price but are not purchasable - they may only be captured and tamed by a character with proficiency in the Animal Handling skill, whether it's you or another player who has agreed to help, following the Artifice guidelines to determine difficulty. Keep the following notes in mind:
  • A successful taming procures a free riding saddle for your mount, though if the saddle ever needs replaced, you'll need to buy a new one.
  • If the tamer is not sure which tools to use, consider: an instrument (musical queues for commands leatherworker's tools (creating a saddle and harness cook's utensils (for proper feed or any other relevant tool the tamer can reasonably justify.
  • Wisdom is the ability score used for taming.
  • The tamer pays the full cost of the mount on a success, rather than half.
Even after training, exotic mounts are generally intelligent enough to know when they're being mistreated, and can and will leave the character's possession at staff discretion. Treat your mounts kindly. Otherwise, exotic mounts are treated as supporting NPCs under your control, similar to Hirelings or Pets.   Exotic mounts cannot be stabled in the same way basic mounts can. It is up to you to make sure you've left your mount somewhere safe if an option isn't available, and it is for this same reason that GMs are permitted to deny access to exotic mounts on some missions. The environment or locale may simply not permit the presence of exotic mounts.   Lastly, a paladin using the find greater steed spell can choose any of the below creatures as their summoned mount.
