The Deep Veil

The Deep Veil is the deepest and densest part of the great forest of Evermist. It is believed to be uninhabitable to any other race of elf besides The Wood Elves. It was first created by The Four Changes and implemented Forest Wills to care for the Veil. Secrets are held within The Deep Veil that not even the high elves know of.   The Deep Veil's interior is considered to be unmappable due to its everchanging routes and paths. It is said that the very trees are sentinent and move, and in rare cases, even talk. The wood elves of the region sometimes use the larger trees as fortresses in order to attack fellow wood elf clans. Large vines trot through the ground and are capable of attacking enemies. The controller of these tree forts are known as Woodyanes. Each Wood Elf clan is connected to the forest and are believed to have a spiritual connection to them, maintained through the Forest Maidens.    Overtime, it is possible that Wood Elves can develope a sickness known as the Green Death, which gradually ruin the mind of the victim and transform the Wood Elf into a more primal state. These Wood Elves overtime have formed clans deep in the Veil known as the Wild Clans that periodtically attack the other Wood Elf clans.    The oldest trees in the Deep Veil are known as the Heartwood, and are believed to have a magical connection to the land that directly impacts how the rest of Evermist's land fairs. the Heartwood is carefully guarded by a group known as the Root Guardians, which had intricate tunnels beneath the land to be able to traverse the dense forest at great speed.    The annual Root-Riding competition is held within the Deep Veil, which is a contest to measure how well one can ride a stray root and stay on the said root the longest. The winner inherits their own heart of a boar-munsk.
