The Men of the Hill

Summary

The Men of the Hill are a savage tribe of men, that have seen little technological development within their years. They sit at the foot of their mountain, which sits upon the border between northern Roscrea and Guilnile. They have had mini skirmishes with both the Humans of Roscrea, and the Dwarves of Guilnile. They answer to no kingdom, or empire, and will fight to the end to defend their home. Several attempts have been made to destroy their main base of operations, but no matter how hard the humans or dwarves try, The Men of the Hill always seem to return.

History

The Men of the Hill can be traced back towhen humans first migrated to Roscrea from Stonefalls, and settled across the land. Separating themselves from the two major ruling tribes in the land, Seria, and Roncaria. A small group of these humans, would retreat north, away from the skirmishes that littered the land from the two tribes. Here, they found Mount Talhendes, where they would create their permanent home in the shadow of the huge mountain. Here, they live and thrive, and worship their own gods, away from the other humans of the world. They live in isolation, rejecting any new technology, and completely relying on their gods for almost anything.

The Pilgrimage

The Pilgrimage is a yearly event in the Men of the Hill's culture, where sixteen brave, young warriors train their entire lives to embark on The Pilgrimage up Mount Talhendes. These warriors are picked from different trials they must preform in, in order to be picked for The Pilgrimage. Even participating in The Pilgrimage is a great honor for the warriors and their families, even if they do not succeed. No one has ever The Pilgrimage, which ends with the warriors climbing to the very top of the mountain, and returning. Thus, none have ever come back from The Pilgrimage.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Speaking a knock off of old Roscrean language, these people are just barely fluent enough in Roscrean to hold a conversation, although some in the tribe have decided to learn more of Roscrean language. This new off shoot of Roscrean has been dubbed "Tahmallie"

Art & Architecture

Living in nothing more than glorified huts and tents, these people live in small, wooden, huts. Larger huts are created for eating and fellowship with other tribesmen, but generally each family sleeps with one another in a small hut, with their family heirloom situated right outside of said hut. The huts are made of the local wood, and usually contain at least one window, and beds along with storage for the family living there.

Mt. Talhendes

Mount Talhendes is the mountain that The Men of the Hill have decided to settle beneath, protected under its shadow. It stands taller than any other nearby mountains, and has a snow capped peak that none have ever traveled to. The Men of the Hill use Mount Talhendes as a religious symbol, and have made a yearly pilgrimage to the mountain, only the strongest warriors participating, trying to get to the peak of the mountain. Strange lights have been seen at the top of the mountain, flashing into the sky preforming spectacular light shows for the people below. The Men of the Hill thinks that it is the gods, beckoning them forward to reach the top of the mountain. None have been strong enough to do so.
